We've stayed in a number of other peppers hotels both in NZ and Aus and were really looking forward to our stay (expecting the usual peppers quality, luxury and service) but were hugely disappointed. We booked a 2 night stay in a hotel room and were very tempted to pack up our bags and leave after the first night...
1. we were allocated a disabled room and we're not advised until we checked in (bathroom floor all wet after shower as no shower base, no where to put toiletries etc)
2. only a thin quilt and a tiny mohair throw was on the bed. asked about extra blankets and staff advised that more were ordered for winter and we should put on the electric blanket and heater. went back up to the room and found there was no electric blanket. staff came knocking on the door after we had gone to bed with more mohair throws... only way to stay warm was to leave the heater on all night
3. couldn't sleep due to blocked gutters outside the window causing a cascade of water to drop heavily on the balcony
4. woke the next morning to find window sill, part of the curtain and carpets completely soaked with water. thing that really frustrated us is clearly this wasnt the first time as on closer inspection the curtains had marks from previous water stains and the timber was all warped.
5. we asked to be moved to another room the next day and we were allocated the same room on the other side of the building (at least it wasn't disabled this time). we checked in, and I ducked out for an hour whilst my husband stayed in. as he was resting on the bed, someone just walked into the room! they seemed shocked to see someone in our room, quickly apologised and left. husband believed another guest was given the key to our hotel room, but when we complained to mgt, we were told that a maintenance person was coming through to inspect the underfloor heating for winter! we don't believe this story at all as the man did not wear a uniform or a badge, was shocked to see my husband in the room, did not knock before entering, and did not explain who he was. even if he was the maintenance man the hotel should not be sending maintenance people through without the guests permission when they are checked in!
6. Came back after dinner to find out key to the hotel room was disabled and had to go back to reception to get it reactivated.
This hotel is absolutely not a luxury hotel that it claims. there are a huge range of other hotels in queenstown, this should be your last resort.
