My husband and I recently traveled to Ballarat for a Monday overnight stay at Oscars. Firstly, what we saw of Ballarat was a real delight...no litter, no graffiti and beautiful old houses. Would like to return for a longer stay to see more of the attractions. Oscars had convenient off street parking and it was situated just off the main street within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the reception staff who generously offered an upgrade to a King bedded room (we didn't want a spa room). The room was very big and nicely decorated, great colours. The room certainly ticked all the boxes...great bathroom, although it was a bit difficult to blow dry hair using the mirror which was situated side-on rather than directly in front of the hand basin, very good shower and all very clean with good quality linen. We had a nice balcony overlooking the car park at the back with views of some of the lovely old buildings of Ballarat. In contrast, the view from the front is unspectacular looking into the Target across the road. We had dinner at Oscars, which was wholesome and reasonably priced. There seemed to be a bit of a hum in the room that became apparent once the light was turned off, and although I expected there may be a problem sleeping, there was no trouble in getting to sleep and we both had a very good rest before the long drive the following day. We needed to get on the road early the next morning and the staff were very accommodating with breakfast..especially as I only wanted a "childrens" breakfast consisting of one poached egg and toast..for which I was only charged $8.00. All staff were very friendly and seemed to have a good grasp of what was going on. At $130 per night I would highly recommend a stay at Oscars.
The rooms at the back had a very relaxed feel and apart from the hum was very quiet.
