Although we are a couple with no trailing kids, I can see that this hotel, with its great location and super pool would offer a great break for Perth families needing to take a rest from the excitment (?) of the city.
We took a low cost 'web' option for the room but on arrival, declined the room with frosted glass windows (next to the entrance ramp). The receptionist kindly changed us to the next floor up - still no view but it was only 60% of the normal rate offer by the hotel directly, so we didn't mind. But beware - there are some rooms like that which are offered at a great rates by the web bookers without telling you that you get light but no transparency in the room. check first.
The hotel is very clean and modern, (converted grain silos, although you have to look hard to see the original skyline) with interesting decor and nothing to complain about in any way. The pool is warm and attractive and seemed not too chlorinated when I was in it. But it was also somewhat empty, which makes a difference, I guess.
The greatest thing about the hotel is it's position. It is right next to the multi-screen Cinema and entertainment complex (theatre etc), very close to a row of excellent modern cafe's and bars including a traditonal fish/chip shop area right on the coast, a few minutes walk into the town centre and a 10 minute walk along the beach to the Dolphin Experience centre where, on most days, you can see dolphins in the wild, close to shore, and learn about their habits and biology etc. We saw a small pod after an hour waiting in the pleasant cafe there, but they were not the 'usuals' - just some strangers checking out the bay. Apparently there is a good bathing beach at Back Beach, but we didn't go there and it is a bit further to walk, so that maybe a short car trip unless you are comfortable with a 20 minute walk over the ridge to the open sea. All this is good fun for kids and adults alike, and having a hotel within walking distance must be a plus. We didn't use the hotel restaurant but it looked OK, if a bit un-atmospheric. All-in-all, a good place to be for a few days.
