My husband and I were looking for a quiet and luxurious hotel in Riviera Maya and settled on Jashita after seeing the reviews and pictures. The hotel is located about 10 min from Tulum Pueblo, at the end of a secluded bay and is the only hotel in Soliman Bay surrounded by private villas. The water is beautiful, clear and calm, surrounded by the reef and we saw many tropical fish while swimming, especially when it rained for awhile. There're only 15 units total, which means you don't have to share the beach with tons of other tourists and half the time we were the only people. You don't take that for granted at a vacation destination. We had Unit 12, which is a deluxe suite with a private balcony overlooking the ocean and we loved it, although the fan in our room wasn't quiet fast enough to generate much flow and the air conditioner can get a bit loud when trying to sleep at night. If you're used to sleeping with an AC Unit in the room it's fine-we're not but we had ear plugs which helped alot-can't complain when many hotels in Tulum don't even have properly working AC 24/7. The staff is very friendly, accommodating and efficient-we loved our beautiful breakfasts(included with the room rate) consisting of fresh squeezed juice, hot baked goods, tropical fruit with yogurt, bacon and eggs made to order. Some reviews complain about the menu at their restaurant, but we're LA foodies and we didn't find any flaws in the menu or the food. The owners are Italian, so they offer fantastic pasta dishes that could compete with any reputable trattoria, and their Mexican dishes may not be as good as some local Mexican specialty joints, but are still solid and yummy. The prices are reasonable(food in tourist places around the area are no bargain unless you goto the local taco stands, but you might get sick later). If you like to try new restaurants, explore the area and go sightseeing, then it's a good idea to rent a car, but if you're not keen on driving in a foreign country, then you can always take a cab for about $200pesos one way into town and they can arrange for tour companies to pick you up on excursions. It might cost more but in the end it'll even out with the rental car price. We're on-the-go types and always need to do something or see something on vacation, so we did the Tulum Ruins, Labnaha Cenote(just across the street, really cool snorkeling and diving), Akumal Bay(swimming with turtles was amazing), Xcacel Beach, and Sian Ka'an Biosphere Canal Tour.
At the end of each day, we were so happy to return to our quiet little hotel in Soliman Bay where we could go for a walk or swim in the lagoon and have the option to eat great pasta after having Mexican food everywhere else. Other local restaurants we recommend are Hartwood(must try, everything is cooked in a big open fire oven and it's fresh and inventive), El Tabano and Oscar y Lalo(they have a resident spider monkey named Lolita that runs around, what more can you ask for-oh, and the food is really good too). Jashita Hotel offers private pickup from Cancun airport at $80, which is a great price for 1.5hr drive(the driver tried to tell us that it was $110 but I had written email from the hotel saying $80, so he backed down). Upon checkout, there is a 10% included service fee for restaurant bills but those guys work hard and we felt that they deserved more so we put extra in the tip jar at the bar. Overall this is a great choice and you won't regret it.
