When we arrived the hotel was practically empty, and we were upgraded to a spa suite - very spacious and extremely adequate (although, as mentioned in previous reviews, it could have done with some better lighting - particularly in the bathroom). The storage space for clothes was very limited. We had no problems with the folding doors out to the terrace and the pools.
Without exception the staff were excellent, particularly Adrian at Reception, and the two chefs in the restaurant (only open for breakfast) who regularly recommended good places for dinner.
It's difficult for a hotel to have atmosphere with few guests around (and the weather wasn't particularly kind!) so maybe we're not giving it a fair rating. It would be interesting going back at a busier time of the year.

“Mango Lagoon - No Thanks”

Mango Lagoon Resort & Wellness Spa

Mango Lagoon is beautiful, if you are into zen/fung shue simple clean lines, muted colors, etc. That's the only good thing we can say. The restaurant is still not open, and they still don't have a liquor license. We ordered a 'take away' continental breakfast one morning because we had a very early tour, and we were assured it would be ready at 6:30am, it never came, they were having 'problems with the chef'. What does it take to put some juice and muffins together? The rooms are not well designed at all. Water all over the floors from the open showers, water all over the tiny counters from the sinks that sits on top, no where to put toiletries. The shutter doors were very difficult to open. We had a suite for a family of 4 and though it had a small washing machine, they would only give us enough powder for 1 load of laundry. Though 'housekeeping' came every day, they didn't clean the toilets or sweep the tile floors every day.
We checked out the night before our departure and asked for a shuttle pickup for 4:15am (supposed to be included) because we had an early flight. It never showed up...we ended up having to call for a taxi.
Can't recommend Mango Lagoon at all.

“Disappointed with Mango Lagoon”

Mango Lagoon Resort & Wellness Spa

I read the reviews from this site which influenced my decision to stay at Mango Lagoon, but I should have paid more attention to the Hong Kong review from July 2005. I totally agree with their comments. Mango Lagoon lacks an essential ingredient - atmosphere!
Yes, it has 4 pools, but big deal when the place is deserted. I suppose if you live in Scotland, anywhere would be wonderful. So you must beware of this review site. We spoke to another couple with small children that were staying a couple of rooms away and they felt exactly the same way.
No restaurant, but more importantly.... not licenced. And when you're staying a fair walk from the beach and restaurants, you want to be able to get a drink with your room service dinner that took over an hour to get there!
The rooms are pleasant enough, but there are certain details, like bad lighting which make it impossible to read a book, open showers that wet everything and uncomfortable couches, not to forget the louvre bifold doors that were very difficult to use.
One last comment I would make, to anyone with young kids, don't stay anywhere but right opposite the beach in Palm Cove. We checked out the Outrigger and spent a few hours pretending we stayed there, using the pool etc. It was fantastic and worth the extra $$$. Novotel was tired.
But we're now up in Port Douglas, and it's much better than Palm Cove. Highly recommend Mandalay Apartments.

“Fantastic”

Mango Lagoon Resort & Wellness Spa

My wife and I enjoyed 7 days of comfort, luxury and outstanding service at this beautifully presented new resort. We had a great holiday enhanced by the exceptionally kind and friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure we were well catered for. Not one of our requests or inquiries was a problem. The food was awsome, the pools great and we really love the ambience of the place. Well done

“Exotic Only in Name”

Mango Lagoon Resort & Wellness Spa

Sorry, but have to wholeheatedly disagree with the other two reviews. We paid over US$200 for a 'suite'. For that money we: didn't have a light over the basin to see oursleves when shaving / putting on make up; had a shower that was next to a 'hole in the wall' (part of the open plan design) that left our bed side table sprayed in water; didn't have a safe in the room; didn't have a restaurant that was open; and didn't have any garden furniture on the verandah outside the room. Added to this the place flet like a motel posing as a 'wellness spa'. The overall design was terribly bland and cramped and set around a series of long and very thin 'swimming pools'. The colour scheme of the buildings was brown and fawn - in an attempt to be 'zen-like' I guess, but just came across as bland and cold. The staff were helpful, though, and when we explained why we were checking out after one night were quite understanding of our situation. We're not people who have overly high demands, but this place just missed the mark by a mile. It was a concept that has been poorly executed - even the interior decoration of the room felt more like a mid-range holiday home rather than an expensive spa resort. Sorry, but Mango Lagoon just doesn't deliver and we would recommend Sea Temple in Palm Cove, where we stayed in a much nicer, cehaper room, with more facilities, better views and first rate fun staff as a much better option.
