We have stopped here twice now, both times over Easter.
We are a family of 4. 2 Adults and 2 children aged 15 & 13 years. Normally we either have to try and squeeze into a family room, but this is just not practical now, or pay for 2 rooms and then hope they are interconnecting! Here though, we have a family room for 4 and it is more like a suite! We have a double room with en-suite and a twin room with en-suite separated by a huge lounge/dining area and a separate kitchen with all facilities. The balcony runs the length of this room as well. There is an entrance lobby with storage room that contains a full size iron and ironing board, and has the cushions for the outdoor furniture. Be warned though, the beds are quite hard. if you like a soft bed you will not have a good nights sleep!
Pool towels are included, but you need to ask at reception. The hotel is a little out the way of bars and restaurants. The first time we went we had to keep having taxis, but this time we hired a car and it was fantastic. We nipped to the supermarket to stock our fridge freezer up for during the day, and went out every evening to the various bars and restaurants around, and there are lots. The Nossa Cafe in Almancil is a real gem. It's nothing much to look at, but the food is typical Portuguese, the staff and owner are very friendly and it is very reasonably priced. The Lemon Tree was also very good and Vaults. All these are in Almancil and about 5-10 mins drive from the Formosa Park.
Through the back of the hotel you walk along a little track until you get to the beach. It is fabulous. On the beach are a few bars/ restaurants serving fish. Very nice but you do pay for the view as well.
The breakfast in the hotel does let it down though. We did manage to find something, but it was nothing to write up about, one way or the other. They do have fruit, cereals, cold meats and cheese, bread and cooked breakfast, but this is kept in bain maries.
The pool is not heated, but a nice size and proper shape to swim properly in, and after the initial shock of the cool water, we soon got used to it.
Oh yes, and it is very popular with golfers! When they are out playing their rounds it is so peaceful, but if they happen to be a large group and having a day off, you may think about going elsewhere for the day!
We will definitely be going back
Hire a car!
