My wife and I recently returned from our honeymoon after a 10-night stay at the Grecian Bay.
Overall we were happy with our holiday and would return to the hotel in the future. But it does have its faults and isn't five-star quality - more like four star.
It's in a good location, a 15 minute walk into Ayia Napa town centre or £4 in a taxi.
The private beach didn't appeal to us, but the outdoor pool is great - especially when you're trying to cool down after sunbathing in 37 degrees heat!
The pool area is clean and reserving your sunbeds for the entire stay is a great idea, but you must be on them before 10.30am or lose them for that day to whoever jumps on it.
I managed to get to mine at 10.20am one morning to find some Mrs Bucket wannabe already on it.
When I explained I had it booked she was furious, picked up her belongings and towel and screamed: "This is the lousiest five star hotel I've ever stayed in!"
Michael, the pool attendant, is a dodgy character who takes more bribes than Harry Redknapp. But he will see you to your bed, provides frozen flannels everyday to cool down and helps you out with you umbrella.
The indoor pool is a no go area. Only swim in here if you want to be stuck in bed ill for the rest of your holiday. A disgrace!
The staff are all friendly and helpful. It was nice having Cockney George on reception, who could help out with whatever problems arise. Few did though, apart from a jammed roller blind in our room.
The dolly birds who walk round the pool with 'call me for a drink' printed on their t-shirts should really walk round the pool more often, rather than worrying if they make-up is running because of the heat.
The rooms are big and clean. The turning down service was a waste of time at 6pm when everyone is either taking a power knap or getting ready for the evening. The maids still seemed to knock on the door though, even when the 'do not disturb' sign was on!
The TV was from the 1970's and only had Sky News. From 23 channels that was the only English one.
Eating and drinking in the hotel is not cheap. A pint of Keo lager is £2.50 Cyprus pounds (approx £2.90 sterling). At the two bars just 100 yards from the hotel's drive the same pint is £1.70, while a few minutes further on it's £1. Top shelf material is around £3 a pop.
Many guests, who were regulars at the hotel (mostly English and German), would go to the supermarket at the top of the hotel driveway and bring back cheaper alcohol to drink round the pool.
There's plenty of choice at breakfast with hot and cold buffet. Lunch for two would cost around £20 (sterling), while the evening meal Flambe Night, or al a carte, in the evening restaurant was double.
There's a pool snack bar serving kebabs and burgers, while the daytime restaurant serves a decent range until 7.30pm.
The food was nice, we never had a bad meal and the service was always good.
The hotel lacks an Internet Cafe, even 3 star hotels have that facility.
Entertainment at night was also non-exsistent. One women and piano had two people on the dance floor!
The hotel leaves itself open to criticism, but in the main it's clean with helpful staff and wouldn't get as many returning customers if it didn't pull its weight.
