I travelled here on 6th May with my husband for a 7 night stay. We booked a standard room and requested a high floor and a pool view. Upon arrival, we were checked (not at a very fast pace as only 2 receptionists available) We recieved our gold all inclusive bands and a refreshing fruit cocktail whilst waiting and when we did reach the front of the queue, were checked in quite quickly. Passport details were taken, we were given 2 key cards, an all inclusive guide and information on how we change pool towels. We were told to wait for the conceirge to collect our bags to take us to the room but after waiting 15 minutes, decided to try and find the room ourselves. We were allocated a room in the annexe building overlooking the family pool/pirate ship on the 1st floor (top floor). I was dissapointed with the room and my first impressions were it was plain, cold and a little scruffy. The bathroom left a lot to be desired. Old tiles that were falling off the edge of the bath and a tatty old shower curtain that had seen better days. We did consider upgrading but for the additional cost to do this locally did not seem worth it! I could overlook the bathroom issues and the maid did her upmost to ensure the room was constantly clean.
We decided to leave the unpacking until the next day as we arrived at 10pm. We found the 50's diner which is open from 18.00 until 23.00 every day. This is a fab little resturant if you want an informal dining option with burgers and chips in a basket.
The main resturant has a fantastic selection of foods to suit all tastes. There is a theme buffet every evening ranging from Traditional Meze to Chinese to Mexician. This hotel probably has one of the best buffet resturants I have experienced in an all inclusive. Breakfast was also taken in the main resturant as well as lunch. There is the option to sit outside or inside with drink waiter service with evening meal. As an additional option for lunch, there is the Kiosk down by the family pool which serves salads and sandwiches as well as drinks between 10.30am and 17.00.
There are 2 A la cartes, a traditional Cypriot Meze option which you can visit twice a week and the Japanese which you can visit once a week. These are both very good.
The pool bar itself is where all the action happens. Serving drinks and ice-creams all day. This is also where the kids mini disco takes place, the bingo and evening quiz and the nightly show. There is also an array of daytime enetertainment such as water volleyball, table tennis, jenga etc...you certainly never get bored here. For children, there is the creche for little ones and then the older kids club which has PS3's, Wii's and internet access. You can buy a pass for kids that costs €6 a day which allows them unlimited access to the kids club and all these facilities.
Service throughout the hotel is second to none, always a friendly face wherever you go.
The beach is approx a 5 minute walk outside the hotel and across the road. The sunbeds here are charged at €2.50 per person per day as are the parasols. The better beach at Nissi Bay is about a 10 minute walk away and far nicer than Landa beach which is nearer the hotel. The sunbeds and parasols are the same price at Nissi Beach.
If you wanted a livlier atomsphere, Ayia Napa is about a 20-30 minute walk away and to get the main harbour in Ayia Napa, about a 40 minute walk. There are plenty of shops and bars along the way to browse in. A taxi to Nissi Beach would cost approx €5, to Ayia Napa between €8 - €9.
The lazy river is fab if you want a relaxing option where you can float around in rubber rings in the quieter part of the complex. There is an adults only pool up by the main pool bar and the family pool and kids slides are further toward the back and the family bungalows (Some of which have private pools) The lifeguards ensure that there are no kids in the adults pool at any time so this was fab if you wanted to sit back and chill!
The plugs in the rooms are British 3 pin so no adapters needed!!
If you are looking at getting married here, I would definately reccommend the Olympian Gardens over the pool gazebo. More intimate and you have the proper feel of a traditional wedding with the aisle. On saying this, there is on average 5 weddings a day so there are brides and grooms everywhere! The experience still seemed intimate but for myself, not as personal. There was an option of various reception venues, in the middle of the pool, under the white gazebo and up by the main resturant, all decorated to a gorgeous, high standard.
I've probably missed loads out of this review, to much to say but to conclude....
Beautiful hotel, amazing choice of food options and high quality drinks that are not watered down! Great kids facilites and day and evening entertainment. The only thing I think personally let the holiday down slightly, is the state of the bathroom and the lacking in quality of the standard rooms. I would not let this put me off going back as had a wonderful experience. Thank you Olympic Lagoon for a wonderful, memorable holiday.
**If you have any questions, please drop me a message and I would be more than happy to answer them. I have leaflets and a mind of information recieved from my stay and my tour with the customer relations manager the hotel so would be happy to help in anyway I can!**
I would definately reccommend upgrading to a Junior Suite or adults only room in the fishermans vill...
