Just returned from a two week "holiday" at the Sungarden. Stayed in one of the bungalows. Don't get me wrong, the location of this hotel (despite the small hill), is idealic. That would be where the pleasure stopped for us.
The all inclusive package means you get what you pay for regarding food. Even though it is a bit hit and miss for kids. Although heaven forbid you go to this hotel and don't drink alcohol! Two of our party were non-drinkers and asked a number of times for large soft drinks instead of a pint of beer. This was ignored and we were given small drinks all the time. What's so bad in wanting a large cola?
When we got to our room, the bathroom was filthy. We complained and it did get cleaned straight away.
The partition is rediculous as the air con only just reaches the far end of the room.
Ok now for our take on the "entertainment". Awful. Absolute joke. Embarrassment to Thomson. Talk about Thomson cutting back. The reps just sat at the bar all day with a cd on repeat. Maybe the odd dance routine in the water that is supposed to pass for aqua aerobics. Don't know about the kids club, other than it was run mainly by the Russian reps and the kids looked bored. The evening entertainment was diabloical. One rep walking around the stage in a foam outfit slowly whilst another followed behind, along to 80's atari music?! What???? Oh and the entertainment is over by 10pm. Most of the guest took their own entertainment (cards, ipods, ipads) and sat in the dining area.
We decided to visit Olympic Lagoon on the other side of town, as we had been there two years ago, before the renovation. So glad we did. We ended up booking the last three days of our holiday there. We had our own private jacuzzi, all inclusive and just complete luxury for those last three days. If we had been able to book Olympic Lagoon from the start (unable due to popularity) it would have worked out cheaper than what we had paid to stay in the shambles we were in. The entertainment team were ten no a hundred times better at Olympic Lagoon. Really got the crowd going and the kids joined in up until midnight. Such a lovely place go and look it up now.
We also noticed the lack of security at Sungarden, unless you phone to report an incident, which we had to. Unlike Olympic Lagoon who have security on site 24/7.
People were getting up at 5.30am to grab sunbeds by the dirty pool. Please think carefully, as there are better hotels in Napa.
Heard the hotel rooms were more modern than the bungalows.
