Having tried to book for several years but never being able to correlate our dates with availability we took a different tact and decided to come when there was availability and are so glad we did.
We had the most relaxing and peaceful time at the Roxburghe and recommend it highly to anyone who wants a true home from home comfortable break. Everything one would expect exists at the Roxburghe; fabulous location, quality furnishings, utmost cleanliness, a spacious room, a bed crafted for the perfect sleep and all with staff whom are very personable and professional being pro-actively attentive without being over bearing.
The grounds are well maintained and provide a peaceful sanctuary to unwind and recharge after a busy week in the city. We didn’t partake in any activities, as our stay was far too short but certainly will on our next visit
The only aspect of failing was the Saturday evening dining experience. The menu was limited and designed I assume to suit to chefs ego rather than the guests desires. It was easy to see what type of presentation the chef was aiming for but it missed the bar upon execution. Some examples in addition to the restrictive choice; despite requesting a starter without one specific ingredient (for good reason) it was served with the ingredient, the first my husband was offered a choice of sauce with his fillet steak was when it was served resulting in both his and my main courses sitting in front of us for over five minutes whilst we waited for the sauce to be prepared, the foam served with the fish made the presentation appear all rather dated. My husbands wine glass stood empty for an excess of c15 minutes despite his water glass being filled twice in that period. The communication between FOH and the kitchen is clearly lacking and needs to be addressed.
Hotel, facilities, staff all a fabulous five stars, the Saturday evening dining experience a disappointing two stars.
Room 8 is fabulous.
