We loved it - and we're going back!

I read a few negative reviews and got nervous before my trip. Those other reviewers don't know what they are talking about. This place is beautiful. Nice little pool right next to the ocean, the restaurant is great, and the bar is a great place to grab a drink and relax before dinner. You can take yoga classes every day right next door under the palms (mats included). You can rent surfboards next door, or take a lesson if you need one.

This place is on the northern end of Rincon, which is more for surfing than swimming, and the waves can be a bit big for swimming. However, I like the northern part of Rincon better, as it is less developed than the southern parts.

Buy a tourist map and find Banana Dang - a 3 minute drive up the hill and the best smoothies I've ever had.

The rooms are perfectly fine. This is not a five-star luxury resort, so if you want 1000 threadcount sheets, then this is not the place for you. That said, my room was perfectly inline with my expectations. Clean sheets and towels, they clean the sand off of the floor every day, and some rooms on the second floor have balconies that overlook the ocean.

Bottom line - This place is great, and I'm already planning my next trip.

“Unfair, rude, nearly ruined my honeymoon”

Casa Islena Inn

We chose this place for the second half of our "mini-moon" and we ended our trip leaving the hotel and finding a new one! Unless you're on a serious budget, do not stay here.

The room was such a disappointment. The sheets and towels are old and worn, the bed is horrible and there is CONSTANT moisture in the room (the review that warned against mildew was right - it's horrible).

I truly feel that this hotel is meant only for those on a tight budget. It was worse than a Holiday Inn. Meaning, it's better than a hole in the wall, but for over $100 per night, you should be getting much much more.

Also, while it's is "on the beach", there is no beach access. Don't let those reviews fool you. The hotel faces north, while the rest of Rincon faces west, so you get NO sunshine...ever.

We checked out early because we were so unhappy (and i got really sick - probably from the mildew) and we were forced to pay for our entire stay.

We are from Manhattan and used to great hotels. This was NOT one of them.

Casa Isleña Inns’ cancelation and early check-out policy is clearly stated on the confirmation letters and web site. When a guest wants to leave early; the full amount of the stay is charged; however if we are able to rent the room a refund is made for the nights re-booked. This is in line with small inns in the area. Casa Isleña Inn is located in the tropics and in front of the ocean; during rainy days the combination of all three can cause a feeling of dampness inside and outside of rooms. The rooms are cleaned daily and aired out as the weather will allow. Casa Isleña Inn is subject to unannounced inspection by the Puerto Rican Health Department, Tourism Company and secret guest; at no time as mildew been found in the rooms. This couple did threaten us with a bad review if we followed our early check out policy. We kept to our early check-out policy.

Stayed at Casa Islena in Rincon, PR for 3 nights. The property is located on the beach which makes it a great location. It is a converted home that has about 8 rooms or so and it has a small pool and a Tapas restaraunt/bar. So here are the positives: The location is perfect. There is ample parking so it is easy to get in and out of. The place was clean and well kept. The food was surprsingly very good and reasonably priced. The bar area, while small was appropriate for the facility.

Here is some contructive criticism: The beds were not particularly comfortable, average I would say. They could upgrade in this department. The rooms were nice but lacked simple things that make a difference such as an iron. For 20 bucks they could put an iron in the room and that would make a difference in convenience. The lighting I found to be odd in the rooms as well. They are doing there best to be environmentally friendly which I appreciate but they could choose better lighting than the ceiling fans and this would make the room more "homey".

As far as the restaraunt, I think they should have some sort of bread/bread sticks or something to put on the table. They are a little disorganized in how they handle the seating and sometimes you have to wait a little for drinks and food, so something to pass the time would be a very smart. I think having a host who maybe doubles as the food runner would be best for them so the waitresses can better attend to the guests. But don't let this criticism take away from the fact that the food is really good and in general the service, considering the circumstances is friendly. I do like the place and will go back.

So, overall I have to say this is an above average property because of the location, the food and the price. I think with a few enhancements they could really distiguish themselves though. I would say that if you are looking for a resort feel you shouldn't even be in Rincon much less Casa Islena. However, if you are looking to have a terrific island experience near the beach and in a good location this is as good a place as any.

We stayed for 5 nights. Found the staff pretty pleasant and helpful. Rooms were spotless despite our getting them absolutely filthy every night. We even managed to lock ourselves out on Mother's day and they sent someone down in less than 5 minutes.
Best thing about this place is the beach. Just something to be said about waking up and seeing the waves directly in front of your room. beautiful terrace and we found the beach great for swimming and wading in (though also for surfing).

We stayed at Casa Islena for 4 days, 3 nights (April 26-29,2007), from the moment we arrived we loved the place right away! It's a huge house & we felt like we were personal guests. The room is very clean & spacious. The service was excellent. We love the restaurant! They serve really good food, tuna ceviche was divine! Everything in the menu is good actually. I would recommend Casa Islena to anyone who wants to go visit Rincon.
