“poor reception”

Parador de Ronda

Having read reviews on trip adviser I decided to book a surprise weekend for my Fiance. I booked direct with a travel agent in Gibraltar for a superior double room, B&B, for Sunday and Monday night. The price was just over £300. We got the train from San Roque, which was fantastic and a single fair was only 6 euro each. We walked from the train station which took only about 15mins, there was no taxi rank. We arrived at the hotel and were very pleased with our choice. What happened next was the only bad point of our trip. We stood at reception, with an elderly receptionist sat there, for more than 10 mins and were completly ignored. I literally had to wave infront of his face and gave him my confirmation paper. He did not acknowledge me at all and proceeded to look through the days bookings. Obviously he could not find my booking, although there was a confirmation number, and called another receptionist who looked again for another 10 mins. After that he asked me what type of room I had booked. I pointed it out on my confirmation slip and he looked for another 5 mins before handed me my key cards and telling me my room was on the 2nd floor and that was it, no explanation.
Apart from that, the weekend was fantastic, the views from the room were fantastic, breakfast was great, meals out overlooking the gorge superb and Ronda was lovely.

On the day we arrived there was a bullfight, and although we were a bit wary of the cruelty, we did go and it was a great spectacle.

It is a pricy hotel but for a treat, apart from reception, I would reccomend it.

Like so many , we wanted a room with a view of the gorge.

We paid for the most expensive room ( about 340 euros per night without parking), presuming that this, along with our multiple e mail requests , would ensure we would get a room with a view of the gorge.

We were astonished to be put into a room with a view of the parking lot, or as the hotel front desk puts it " the parking lot and the outside wall of the bullring". When I expressed our disappointment the front desk informed me there was nothing that they could do, as all the rooms with a view were taken.

We agree with the comments about arrogant , disinterested waiters in the dining room.

Unless you get a written guarantee of a room with a view , and if you really want to stay here, opt for a cheap room.

Else you can expect disinterested shrugs of the shoulder and attitude to resolve your concerns.

Three of us stayed in the Parador two weekends ago for one night. We had two rooms that overlooked the swimming pool and the Puente Nuevo. The location of the Parador on the edge of the Tajo gorge is fantastic. The town of Ronda itself is a wonderful, lively town, with lots of buzz. It is also a good shopping town. There are two things that detract from making the Parador excellent: the head waiter and the swimming pool area. The Restaurant food was truly excellent and served by a wonderful waiter. Unfortuantely, the head waiter was one of the most arrogant, indifferent and discourteous head waiters I have ever come across. I think it must have been that he didn't really like guests coming into his reataurant on a Sunday night!!!!! He made us feel as if we were disurbing his life! Having showed us to the table and taken our order, he never came near us again to ask if everything was OK etc. There were no pleasantries or courtesies demonstrated to us, his guests. What is it about some of these head waiters? Do they not realise who pays their wages? It is us the customers!!!!
The swimming pool is in a great location just beside the gorge. What a pity that there is only one sun umbrella! What a pity too that the surrounding gardens look in need of a makeover! No changing rooms, toilets etc at the pool. Also, no pool bar.
These may sound like petty gripes. But, when I'm paying top prices, I expect top service and surroundings.

This hotel is right on the edge of a gorge in the beautiful small town of Ronda. Views are incredible and it is worth the extra price to be on the "view" side of the hotel. The pool is small but refreshing and it was fun to lie on a beach chair at the pool while enjoying the view into the gorge and beyond. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable. We ate at restaurants in town rather than at the hotel.
