“Very cool place, but not for the fussy”

My husband & I stayed here 2 nights with our daughter, son-in-law and 8-year old granddaughter. We all loved its quirkyness and charm along with the very good breakfast and free wine. The location was good -- we walked everywhere: to the "new" bridge, the old town, and a very good restaurant (Casa Maria) we found by asking someone on the street. Parking on the street was easy.

However, the newly renovated "delux" tower room we were in had a very powerful smell -- like disinfectant/deodorizer on top of literally centuries of cat pee. We aren't fussy, but the smell was very difficult to get used to. The tower was very old & quaint, and the stairway up to the top to the bedroom was extremely steep, narrow, and any other inconvenient feature you can think of. The bathroom was at the bottom of it. They weren't kidding when they said that that room is definitely not for small children or anyone with problems with balance or stairs. Especially someone who gets up in the night to go to the bathroom. On a positive side, the tiny balcony off the bedroom had a table & 2 chairs and overlooked the patio and pool and was a nice feature.

My daughter's bedroom was nothing special either -- all in all I agree with a previous review saying the common rooms and areas were superior to the bedrooms. However, we rarely spend much time in our rooms anyway, and loved the koi pond, aviary, and terrace overlooking the horse ring and mountains.

Be sure and look at the hotel's website -- it is a hoot. We loved Ronda and would all go back to this hotel in a NY minute!

I've been to this marvelous hotel on four occasions I like it so much. Each time there have been a group of us for someone's special birthday or the like.

It's very laid back, set in a spectacular location. The town itself if very beautiful and great to walk around. The hotel is very close to the center, however the slopes to get there are very steep. Great for a workout!

The hotel is very eclectic indeed. For some reason I feel like I'm on the set of a Kubrick movie or something. Breakfast on one of the sun patios looks down to a horse stable where they do dressage to mozart. Lovely with your cup of coffee in the morning.

The last time I was there I stayed in the 2 story suite at one end of the hotel. Stunning room and great for late night partying without disturbing the other guests (mind you we occupied 80% of the rooms lol).

Highly recommended!

Sorry to be negative but there is no way that the Bamboo Room is Deluxe. One mirror about 6 inches diameter and no drawers or wardrobes. Rough brick stairs quite steep down to the bathroom and not a lot of comfort once you get there. Not a lot of privacy with the blinds either!

The Sauna was a disgrace with discarded elastoplast in the afternoon still there the next morning.

The place needs a bit of TLC everywhere.

On the positive the breakfast is great and the free bar consoles one a bit as well.

Were on a whirlwind one night stopover train, boat and bus zap round Spain and Morocco. Booked this one just cos it had a triple room. Didn't even realise till we arrived that it was free drinks or that it was such a fairytale place and setting. We are well travelled and not easily amazed but this one took our breath away.

Hmmm...so, you want to stay up all night long and party? Go for it! The beer and the wine is free. So, why not?

The place is eclectic. Not all rooms are created equal. We had booked the bamboo room and then changed to the 2 story suite before settling in to a "normal room" for a couple of nights. It was all quite different.

We never found our way out to the pool or into the billiards room, but we did spend some time taking advantage of the free beer and wine policy a bit more often than we may have had we been required to pay extra for it. Oh, well - isn't that what holidays are about on occasion?
