My husband & I stayed here 2 nights with our daughter, son-in-law and 8-year old granddaughter. We all loved its quirkyness and charm along with the very good breakfast and free wine. The location was good -- we walked everywhere: to the "new" bridge, the old town, and a very good restaurant (Casa Maria) we found by asking someone on the street. Parking on the street was easy.
However, the newly renovated "delux" tower room we were in had a very powerful smell -- like disinfectant/deodorizer on top of literally centuries of cat pee. We aren't fussy, but the smell was very difficult to get used to. The tower was very old & quaint, and the stairway up to the top to the bedroom was extremely steep, narrow, and any other inconvenient feature you can think of. The bathroom was at the bottom of it. They weren't kidding when they said that that room is definitely not for small children or anyone with problems with balance or stairs. Especially someone who gets up in the night to go to the bathroom. On a positive side, the tiny balcony off the bedroom had a table & 2 chairs and overlooked the patio and pool and was a nice feature.
My daughter's bedroom was nothing special either -- all in all I agree with a previous review saying the common rooms and areas were superior to the bedrooms. However, we rarely spend much time in our rooms anyway, and loved the koi pond, aviary, and terrace overlooking the horse ring and mountains.
Be sure and look at the hotel's website -- it is a hoot. We loved Ronda and would all go back to this hotel in a NY minute!
