The Riverside Hotel has many pluses and a few minuses, but our overall experience was quite good. We stayed at the Riverside for 3 nights in October 2006 as part of their "Cultural Package." The pluses: the hotel is in a beautifully restored building across the street from the Vltava River. Our luxurious large room had one of the few balconies with a spectacular view of the river and city. The hotel front desk staff was very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable, and very fluent in English (since Czech is not real easy to understand for us English speakers). The Cultural Package was a good deal -- we were picked up at the airport by a driver in a late model Mercedes sedan (he waited for us even though we arrived way late from Paris); the breakfasts in the morning were excellent (extremely friendly waitstaff); the provided Prague Card was a real moneysaver at museums; and the dinner at a top restaurant was good (but in order to take advantage of the "free" deal, you had to order off a very limited special menu just for Riverside guests). The adjacent neighborhood is not hopping with tourists, but rather real folks living their lives. Trams to destinations on both sides of the river are within a few blocks of the hotel. The minuses: the walk to the Old City is a pretty good hike, and traffic outside the hotel is heavy since it is located right at a bridge across the river (fortunately, the excellent windows in the rooms block out 95% of the traffic noise).
