Beautiful Opera House, ticket prices are so reasonable even for a box. Prosecco all poured out and ready to serve at the interval and delicious open sandwiches also.

My husband and I saw two performances here in June (La Traviata and the Magic Flute). Both were enjoyable and very reasonably priced. For us (we frequent the LA Opera, which has great acoustics but is a bit souless) it was like being in a time machine. If you like opera, you probably won't be disappointed. If you've never seen an opera, go...and you'll be hooked.

I was just a small child when I first entered this building to see my first opera. I was mesmerized then and still am years later.
This is the largest theater in Prague, and it does not quite have the nice location on the riverbank like the National theater. But It is spectacular inside and the acoustics are great . My experience seeing an opera in this theater surpassed a wonderful performance I attended in the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
The Czech people love music and going to the opera is viewed as a very special occasion. The dress code used to be more formal, but these days it seems as if tourists - sometimes bying tickets at the last moment are not always prepared for that. Anyway, if you planned ahead, dressing appropriately will make your experience even better. The Prague people will appreciate it. So I have been told and I tend to agree.

The hall will take your breath. The amount of detail in frescos and decorations is stunning. It almost looks like a cave that naturally created an opera hall. A cave made of gold and red velvet. Just beautiful.

Having never been to an opera we thought we'd start in style at the State Opera, Prague. We booked and paid for the tickets online, directly from their own website, which was very easy. Printed the tickets at home so we didn't need to make any arrangements for collection etc We saw La Boheme, which seemed appropriate given we were in the old kingdom of Bohemia! What a fabulous venue - baroque décor and fantastic staging for this popular classic of the genre. There's an informal dress code but many locals and tourists use it as an excuse to dress up, just for the hell of it! (As did we). Thoroughly enjoyable evening, great performance and a lovely venue.
