“Superb Location, OK Hotel”

The hotel was booked at the same time as the flights via the Easyjet site. The rates were very reasonable. We did ask for a double room but the room we got had two single beds that were laid head to toe in the narrow room. The room we had had a poor view across the car park, however, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms and bathrooms very clean and more than warm enough.

The breakfast was a standard European style buffet and a bar was open 24 hours in the reception.

Whilst we were staying though there was obviously a stag/hen do in the rooms close by and the rooms were noisy, on the Monday they were replaced by a school party which were not quiet!

However, the hotel was superbly located just across the road from the Planty Gardens.. It was just a 10-minute easy stroll from the train station and just a five-minute ramble form the central square. Wawel Castle, Kazimierz and most of the main museums and churchs are all within easy walking distance.

I would recommend the Wyspianski for couples on a budget or young singles. It’s comfortable enough without being particularly luxurious.

on arrival the outside looks a bit shabby but when you go inside it is a very grand hotel . the staff are very helpful & friendly . the rooms are clean & tidy .the whole facilities are very good standards , the continental breakfast is excellent , the restuarant evening meals are very good , there is a coffee bar in the reception lounge , we enjoyed the atmosphere , whenever we came back to the hotel we stopped there first & we met alot of people there . we will be going back there in the future & we are looking foreward to it .

Decided on this Hotel after reading other reviews. The outside of the Hotel looks a bit offputting with cracked and peeling paint and the aura of a communist police block BUT once inside it is great. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room (I had a cheap one) did have a strange bed arrangement - twin beds head to toe, but it was warm, comfortable and the whole room was spotlessly clean. I ate dinner in the hotel which was superb in terms of quality, quantity and flavour and it was less than £10. The breakfast was varied and tasty.

Certainly no complaints from me and it was only a five minute walk to the town centre and 10 minutes to the train and bus stations.

“Oh dear................”

Hotel PTTK Wyspianski

Stayed here very recently with my daughter and grandaughter.
Starting with the points in its favour. Situated within walking distance of the main square, bus and train stations and Wawel Castle, the Wyspianski is certainly well placed on Westerplatte on the west side of the old town just outside the green belt called the Planty.
The rooms are clean, well presented and have a TV (usual obscure channels but ok if you are heavily into the stock market or American news), radio/alarm clock and ample provision to pen your postcards. The beds in the single / twin rooms are a bit oddly placed, lengthways sleeping head to head but workable. Each day bottles of water were supplied as you cannot drink or brush your teeth with the tap water. I had read previous postings saying that a travel kettle should be taken as no facilities were available but the Hotel info clearly states that your own electrical appliances should not be used and unless you unplug the light or TV there is no spare socket.....I opted for tea withdrawl rather than frying so didn't use it more than once!
The Breakfast ample and varied and staff greeted us with a smile on presentation of our entitlement cards.
Here ends what was good for us.
The shower room was clean and bright but had a continuous malodour eminating from the shower drain. I am a Nurse and well used to, shall we say not so nice aromas, but YUK this stunk. It pervaded my whole room and had to keep my window open day and night. I mentioned my concern to the reception staff who said someone would look at the problem but alas it did not improve and I was given no feedback. Had I been alone I would have requested another room but as my companions were in the next room and the hotel appeared full, I felt I had little chance of moving with them in such close proximity. Their room also had the same problem.
The hotel itself is like a large concrete multistorey carpark subdivided into rooms of varying size. The vast landings and long corridors, devoid of any furniture and having extremely thin carpet served to act as one huge echo chamber. The rooms also had very thin carpet and doors which had nothing in the way of a buffer, by which I mean something to absorb the bang as the door closes, and even if you tried to close it quietly -not enough people chose to, sadly - the sound resonated up and down the corridors. Noise of movements and door closing / slamming from our landing and upstairs invaded our peace regularly especially late at night and waking us at 04:30.
Rooms 119 and 120 were situated very near the service lift which appeared to be in operation, noisily, from 06:00 and room cleaning at 07:30 was not unknown.
The noise was not simply of door banging origin, voices were just as loud, at all hours. I am not a killjoy, far from it but I really don't want it amplified into my room at all hours and the Hotel's construction exacerbates the problem.
So, smell, noise what else...oh yes, the prevalence of stag parties & school parties. Increasing the noise levels and sadly while waiting for our taxi to the airport (ordered through Cracow-life at a very reasonable 70PLN each way) my grandaughter was treated to the full range of expletives by an all male beer swilling bunch determined to recount the conquests of the previous night with no holds barred. This took place at 10:30 am in the reception area. I don't know who I felt more disappointed with, the reception staff for not requesting that these people turn down the noise / language - most countries understand the Anglo-saxon terms-
or myself for not asking them to kindly get a life and respect the ears of a child. The only option was to wait outside.
As I would very much like to visit Cracow again I looked around the town at other Hotels. There were plenty of 3* establishments in a very similar price range that appeared superior in appearance, facilites and staff enthusiasm.
The Wyspianski should, in my opinion, be regraded to a 2* as its more Hostel than Hotel.

“Great location, good price, but you get what you pay for”

Hotel PTTK Wyspianski

5 Feb 2008

If you are looking to stay in a HOTEL and not a hostel or small european hotel. But you don't want to pay more than a 100 dollars or more. This is the perfect place.
It is a hotel, 4 floors, a nice reception service, and a great location- two blocks from the town square and cracow tours stop at the hotel for tours (but they are over price, but it was convient)
They have large rooms.
Those are the +'s
The quality of the hotel is a 2 star, it has lots of Brits there for their stag parties as Krakow is quite affordable. the rooms are old and the linens can give you the heebie jeebies since they seem old. the rooms are probably from the 80's.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — location and the price with the Hotel feel
    • Disliked — it's not up to par, you are paying 70 dollars a night and you get a bit more but that is what you are paying for
