DON'T!!!! I REPEAT, DON'T! DON'T BOOK THE CHEAPEST ROOM!!!!! It's called a double… and a tempting choice at such a low price. STAY AWAY! This "double" is actually a pullout couch and a single bed. The bathroom is so small that your face will literally be in the sink when you sit on the commode (no kidding!) The bathroom is about the size of two phone booths. No soap! No shampoo! Two very small towels. No phone. Room not kept very well. If you want hot water for tea, they have a table in the hallway with an electric teapot for joint use of all the rooms in this area.
Obviously, we were not happy with the room (#211).
However, and it’s a BIG “however,” the staff was extremely accommodating allowing us an upgrade after one night. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! We went from a “no star” room to at least a “three” and maybe even a “four” for our final 4 days. Our new room (220A) was wonderful. A large bathroom with soap and an assortment of large towels; a beautiful bedroom with a desk and a huge king-sized bed; a living room with couch, desk, two arm chairs, table, small refrigerator, electric tea pot; a spacious foyer with large armoire; hairdryer, soap, shoeshine material, etc. And all this for an extra 20 Euros a night! WELL WORTH IT. Still no phone and no shampoo, but easy to live with in this era of cell phones and toiletry kits.
The location is great, just a block from the train station and the bus terminal. There’s a small ski area right across the street. It’s only a short walk to the town center (maybe 7 or 8 minutes). The staff is very friendly and helpful and allowed us to leave our luggage in a room behind the front desk when we checked out at noon because our train wasn’t leaving until 8 pm. The buffet breakfast (included with room) was actually less than basic with a platter of cold sliced meats and cheese being the main food, with one hot item each day (the sausages were fine but the eggs were awful.) No fruit, no dairy products like yogurt or cottage cheese, no juice. For morning drinks, tea bags and a jar of instant coffee and cocoa are placed by the hot water urn. In other words, why bother! We probably would have been better off walking to McDonald’s for breakfast and paying a few slotys for real coffee, juice and an Egg McMuffin. Having said all that, the value would have been good even if no breakfast were offered.
Overall, from the second night onward and with the exception of breakfast, the experience improved vastly. In short. Positive: good value for the money, friendly staff, great location, clean. Negative: buffet breakfast, lower-priced double rooms. I rate this hotel a 4 as long as you stay in the better rooms. If you stay in #211 and the like, I rate is a big "0" goose egg!
