Stayed end of May, 2012.
Located in the Castle district, on the Buda side, this hotel characterizes itself as an: All Suite Hotel Deluxe.
We purchased, from an on-line company, a package that included airport transportation, a 3 night stay in a Gold Suite, breakfast, and a set 3 course dinner for 2, on a night of our choice.
This property has a long history. It has been, among other things, an Art School, a Law Court, government offices, etc. However, that is deceptive. The structure may be old, however, the interior has clearly been reconstructed to modern standards. The property is well maintained and spotless. Although the ambiance is clearly directed at old world elegance, there is nothing old or worn out about this hotel.
Unfortunately, in its reconstruction, they did not install an elevator. Therefore, be aware that unless you request a ground floor suite, you will be climbing stairs. There are suites on 3 floors. Fortunately, they have a porter to help with your luggage.
We requested a king bed and were advised that the only king bedded Gold Suites were on the second floor. We were pleasantly surprised that the reference to the second floor was the description we, as Americans, would use, rather than the European - ground, first, second. So, our suite was not on the top floor.
The next pleasant surprise was our suite! It was massive! I estimate the ceiling height to be at least 14 feet. On one end was the bedroom, with king bed, side tables, flat screen TV and adjoining marble bathroom.
In the middle was a great room/dining area with a dining table that would seat six; and a kitchen area with refrigerator, microwave, sink, dishwasher, and cabinets with all the necessary plates, utensils, glasses, etc.. There is an armoire, and a side table.
At the far end, was the living room area with a desk and chair, two overstuffed leather chairs, a leather love seat, flat screen TV and a large cupboard containing an in-room safe, and storage for bathrobes, slippers and extra blankets. There is also a second, full bathroom!
The suite is tastefully decorated with what appears to be a combination of antique and antique reproduction furniture and furnishings. The parquet style flooring appears to be new. All plumbing and electrical are completely modern, and there is complimentary WiFi. In essence, this is a new, modern hotel inside an old structure; giving you the best of both.
Our package included breakfast. Depending on the weather, you can have your breakfast outside in the lovely courtyard. The breakfast included hot items, such as scrambled eggs, vegetables, bacon, and sausages. There were also cold meats and cheeses, yogurt, breads, juices, teas, coffee, etc.
There are some things that could be minor issues for some people, however. There are no views. The lack of an elevator may be a problem for some people. The bathrooms, like many European hotels, do not have a shower. They have large modern tubs, complete with headrests and hand holds, but only a hand held wand. The mattress on our king bed was extra, extra firm.
The hotel staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. There was an issue regarding the online travel vendor and whether taxes were included in the purchase price. The issue was resolved amiably and satisfactorily.
I would not hesitate to stay again.
There are various types of suites. Review the choices before booking.
