In a country not renowned for its cuisine, Druskos Namai is an oasis in a gastronomic desert. My only regret is that I discovered it on my last day in Vilnius. Having only been open a few months, this quaint restaurant is sure to become one of the culinary focal points of Vilnius.
The elegant wood-paneled interior is matched by the equally classy cuisine. There is also sunny outdoor courtyard, where you can sample a well-chosen wine list.
The hospitable owners were on hand, and happy to talk through the menu. They clearly have a passion for what they do, and explained at length the care taken to source their produce. Apparently, the chef was poached from London, having served in a number of Michelin Star venues.
The 2-course lunch at 25 Litas (7 Euros) is the best value meal you’ll find in Lithuania, and most other parts of Europe for that matter.
If you’re a fan of soggy dumplings, stick to the well-establish overpriced local restaurants. If you want fine dining with a local twist, you really ought to check this place out.
I look forward to coming back.
