“Wonderful place to stay in the Tallinn city centre”

City Hotel Portus

We have been several times in City Hotel Portus and it has always been a very pleasant experience. When you enter the hotel, the people in reception always welcome you with smiling faces. Booking in the hotel has been quick, because the people taking care of the reservations have also done their work properly.

There is a garage in the hotel which is very important when arriving with a car from abroad. The nights in the hotel have been pretty quiet, there hardly is any disturbance from the other hotel guests.

Breakfast is very good and the people working in Cafe Retro are very wonderful.

Because the hotel is so close to the city centre (actually in the city centre), we have experienced Tallinn simply by walking.

If we ever have had something to ask about our booking or something else concerning staying in the hotel, the people in the 'customer service' have been ready to help and give advice.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 days. got a taxi to the airport and got ripped off on the first day by the taxi driver. once we got the hotel we spoke to the receptionist about what we felt was a very high charge. She was extremely helpfull and was prepared to report him. she looked at our taxi receipt and told us that we paid a 90k charge just to get in the taxi. she advised us to ask her to book us a taxi in the future.

She asked us which room we wanted and whether we wanted a view of the old town or the harbour.she said the rooms facing th harbour were bigger.

I could not fault the room, hotel or the staff. Being a vegetarian i wasn't expecting to be able to eat much for the breakfast, but in fact there was a big selection including omelete bread cereal etc.

The tram stops on the main road near the hotel and using this tram its easy to get to kadriorg or old town. We walked every day to oldtown which took 10mins max

There was a computer with free internet in the lobby which was fast and also there was free wi-fi in the hotel rooms.

the rooms were spacious clean and new and very warm. Our room was facing the harbour but i did not hear any noise from the harbour or any traffic (and i'm a light sleeper)

Finland

The hotel is quite new and therefore ok quality, rooms are clean etc. However this hotel seems to be in the favor of "Finnish vodka tourists" whose only mission in Tallinn is to drink as much cheap vodka as possible as well as take it back to Finland. There was no problem with the drunk ones (except the atmosphere isn't very nice) and the hotel was peaceful during the night-time but it's certainly not a great place for a romantic getaway.

The hotel is located in the harbour, about 15-20 minutes walk from old town. The area isn't very nice but who spends the whole time in the hotel anyway. Breakfast was ok.

Sometimes Estonian hotels have special prices and you might get a better hotel with the same price that is also located more near to the old town. However this hotel is a good budget choice.

Good hotel for the price - rooms small but comfortable - breakfast average.

Hotel has Sauna, but this is NOT FREE - it is part attached to a function room, and you have to pre-book the whole facility, cost c. £25 which is OK for a group of you. Better isKalev Spa water park, attached to Kalev Spa hotel, 10 minutes walk, on edge of old town - cost £3, and has sauna and steam rooms as part of the pool complex, and also single sex saunas in changing rooms - this is free with Tallinn card. The card is worth getting if you plan to do the "Tallinn official Sightseeing Tour", which picks up 1 minute walk from hotel - otherwise just get a pass for public transport for the number of days you are there.

No 2 bus takes you from airport to hotel - hotel is at Passenger Terminal and is the last stop. No 2 bus takes you from hotel to Viru KKeskus(shopping centre - attached to Sokus Viru Hotel, which is a very visible landmark and therefore easy to find). No 20 takes you to edge of old town, at the botom of Viru. Coming back, didnt find No 20 stop, but No 2 stop is outside Viru Keskus on A. Laikmaa.

February is very cold, and with evening temperatures -15c at night, almost too cold to go out, and daytime up to only -9c on one day. although got to -2c on last day (phew- what a scorcher!!!!)

Please conact if you want any further info

We stayed here in February 07 for 3 nights and we were very pleased with the hotel. It cost us about £23 per night for a double room which we thought was very reasonable.

The hotel has a retro theme and has pictures of past and present music stars on the walls, and a very 70's style cafe/restuarant. It is is meant this way and it feels kinda funky! A very pleasent atmosphere in the restuarant too, and the food to match - very nice.

The staff were friendly although they never smiled (Maybe because it was so cold when we went, about -10C), but they were helpful when needed and didn't mind calling our taxis for us.

The hotel has free internet access and I believe it also has Wifi too so if you have wireless connections on your laptop or palm top you can connect in the comfort of the lounge area and surf all night.

Rooms were pretty basic but adequate and did have a small tv with satelite. A nice spacious bathroom with a good shower and again, a funky feel to the whole room. We had a large modern picture on the wall of Billy Holiday.

Overall, I would defintely recommend this hotel to anyone as it close to the shipping port, the bus stop and only about a 10 min walk from the old town. A very pleasant stay and I would return there anyday if I were to return to Tallinn. 8.5 out of 10 :-)
