Sybil and Ian were so easy to talk to on the phone and we decided to book a half day nature cruise followed by a wine tour. Ian picked us up from the marina and I was thrilled as 'Storm Dancer' accelerated out to sea. Our skipper was professional and knowledgable and we watched wonderful Australasian Gannets diving for fish and blue penguins galore. Although it was windy we were able to moor up at Motarau Island and climbed up the path to the top viewing deck where we looked back towards Picton down the Sound and out towards the Cook Strait in the other direction. The birds were wonderful and plentiful and my husband took some wonderful photographs. We headed back via "Ships Cove" where Captain Cook has a monument and Lochmara Bay. Sybil's picnic was delicious and home cooked, particularly good as we are vegetarians and she looked after us perfectly. We returned to the marina exhilerated and headed off to visit our first Winery and for me an incredible lesson in wine. My favourite bit being the tasting! We visited 3 wineries and I particularly loved the 'floral' white wines but ended up buying Viognier, which I transported safely home and am still enjoying.
The day was a highlight of our holiday in NZ and really good value. Although there was just the two of us the boat takes groups and I was delighted that it also had a toilet on board!
