My husband and I needed to get out and enjoy the outdoors. It was a beautiful sunny February day, so we headed out to the Matsu Glacier for a hike. It was a beautiful drive on the way out. I haven't traveled the highway since I arrived almost three years ago. Too many other places to visit I guess. If you are going during the winter time the owner/operator suggests that you have a four wheel drive to get down to the area. We had snow tires and studs, so we did ok. It cost $15.00 to get in, but since hubby is in the Air Force we got a $5.00 discount. We really appreciated that! The man in the office was very nice, but told us they aren't always there during the winter time, so we should call if we want to come again to make sure they are there. He was very nice and informative about the area and warned us about the dangers of getting off the trail. I needed no warning because I am a natural scardy cat:) It was a different scene from what you would see during the summer months. A little creepy in some places. You could walk and then you would hear a very hollow area below. The path had been inspected that morning by the operator by snow machine, so I knew if it held the man and the snow machine it would MOST LIKELY HOLD ME! A little creepy non the less. My husband coaxed me on :) It was very beautiful. A winter wonderland with blue ice peaking out here and there. A very nice trip. The best months according to the owner are from May to October. You do have to sign a release form to enter the area.
