I spent eight nights at the Topaz, nestled near Dupont Circle. It's really rarely ever easy to call a hotel "Home." But at the Topaz it's about as close as it gets! The rooms are clean, comfortable, light and airy, with plenty of space.
Best of all ... the staff! We instantly felt like we'd made friends with everyone on duty. Friendly, cheerful, and truly sincere. Nothing fatuous or phony with a fake "Good morning! How's your trip!?" They were really interested in what we'd seen, where we were from, where we were going, and not like, "Oh boy. Two more tourists ..."
The housekeepers, the bellmen, the spectacular, oh-my-gosh, over-achieving, super-amazing Front Desk! Helpful, fun, sincere, warm and genuine ... from nightlife-fun recommendations to dinner reservations. This hotel staff would be hard to beat!
Maybe I'm given to over-sentimentality, but when it came time to leave, I hated saying, "Goodbye."
In a city full of really expensive hotels, and moderate hotels, Topaz Hotel is definitely worth the price you pay and I'd absolutely go back.
Walking distance from the White House and several museums, with a couple of Red Line Metro stops very nearby.
HINT: right around the corner is a grab 'n' go joint called "Julia's Empanadas" open nearly all night long! This place is a cheap, delicious "Don't Miss!"
