This hotel is in the midst of a mall-wide renovation and thus in the midst of a loud mess. I am not sure when the mall renovation will be completed, but even with many stores closed and the difficulty of renovations, this was a great stay for us with 3 children and I would gladly return even before renovations are complete.
The facilities are cookie-cutter Embassy Suites--two rooms with a tiny kitchenette with small refrigerator and microwave. The small living room has a pull-out sofabed and both living room and bedroom have flat screen televisions. It is very comfortable and we found the rooms to be quiet even with an active neighborhood and mall outside of door and windows. Many hotels in DC do not allow more than 3 or 4 people in a room (even if they are your children) and this is a nice, spacious option with children which includes breakfast buffet and evening reception for the whole family. If you need internet it will cost extra and parking is $24 a day, but all in all this is a good value for DC. Parking beneath the hotel is a bit confusing--some areas are not for hotel guests, but is oddly marked with no and yes here and there. Parking was $24 a day with in and out at will option. You must have your parking ticket validated at the front desk each time you re-enter the garage. The garage is easy to navigate and spaces are plentiful (not the case in many DC hotel garages.)
The breakfast buffet was excellent with nice variety of hot and cold options. The free evening reception was nice with drinks of all sorts (cocktails, wine, soda, etc...) for adults and children and a small table of quick snacks such as pretzels with Goldfish crackers, hummus (quite good) and pita chips.
All staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and efficient. No one was imposing but seemed happy to help at any time if needed.
There are many restaurants and shops in adjacent neighborhoods. We felt very safe walking at night in the neighborhood. There is a Starbucks, J. Crew, World Market, Ann Taylor Loft, Cheesecake Factory, and a few other shops currently open in the mall. More will open/re-open when renovations are complete. The Friendship Heights Metro stop is accessed by a quick elevator ride into the ground-floor level of the mall -- all without going outside and easy to access. The Washington DC Metro system is *very* easy to navigate and is fairly clean and feels safe in most areas. If you are unsure how to buy farecards, etc... there is almost always a local who offers a quick hand to help. The Metro also has a website that clearly shows the lines (color-coded) and fares from location to location.
The area immediately adjacent to this hotel includes two other shopping areas including "The Shops at Wisconsin Place" and "Mazza Gallarie." Shopping here ranges from Tiffany & Co. and Louis Vuitton to T.J. Maxx and a lot in-between. This is a nice location with a lot of variety right outside of the door.
This Embassy Suites is a great option for people with children, or even those hesitant to explore on their own if traveling alone.

Thank you for your great feedback and experience with our hotel. It is great to hear that you and your family were able to enjoy your stay given the unexpected start of the Pavilion construction. We truly appreciate your understanding during that time period. The mall renovation is scheduled to be completed in mid-September of this year with the larger portion of the construction being completed while the property is closed in March through May.
Your notations regarding the suites, parking and breakfast are wonderful. The complimentary amenities such as Manager's Reception and Breakfast are the most popular functions of our property. The parking can be a bit cumbersome at times as it is a public parking garage available to all guests and patrons of the Chevy Chase area. Our overnight hotel guests have designated parking areas within the garage which assist with the in and out access.
I am pleased that you found our location to be a great destination for your stay. The access to the Metro, local restaurants and shops continue to enhance the wonderful amenities offered by the hotel. Our staff appreciate your recognition of their hard work and dedication to the property and our guests. We hope that we have the opportunity to host you and your family again soon.
