We arrived at Hotel Palomar after coming from New York, we arrived at 5pm and could see that the lobby was really busy, not really understanding what was going on we checked in and were told that between 5pm - 6pm they have wine and nibbles for all guest to enjoy and communicate with other guests. We just had a 3 hours train ride from NY so this was perfect! There was a choice of white and red wine, there were olives and crackers to nibble on too. A lovely jesture from the hotel, and this is every night.
The hotel allows pets, which i love and throughly enjoyed seeing all the different dogs going in and out the elevator.
The hotel is large, it is situated on a side street away from the main dupont circle area, it is close to the metro and about 40-50 minutes walk to The Mall/lincoln memorial/capital building etc. We walked to these every day, and some twice as we went back to the IMAX in the national History museum one night, so don't be concerned that it may look out of the way. That said, 50 minutes there, 50 minutes back plus all day walking around the more meant we were exhausted, but the hotel has plasters!!! much needed.
We had a package with continental breakfast, which consisted of toast, croissants, porridge, tea, coffee, fruit juice, cakes and fruit. This was plenty compared to what we usually eat and available until 10am, so more relaxing that NY.
The room that we stayed in was on the 3rd floor, it was quiet, so very comfortable, spacious and welcoming. We didn't have a view, but we didn't need one. We had just spend the past few days in NY and needed a relaxing break and this hotel gave it to us. It was extremly clean, Aveda hair and body products in the bathroom, replaced daily if you have used a drop. Being typically british we asked reception for tea making facilities and 5 minutes later they were being delivered with fresh milk.
There is a mini bar, but you have to pay for items naturally so we didn't ask for the key for this. There is a safe in the room and there are gowns and slippers. The bed was massive, so many pillows and duvets and sheets. We went in February so needed a nice warm room and this was great. The hotel is very large, but you don't really notice the other guests until the wine and nibble hour, it is very quiet. There is a pool but we didn't get to view this seeing as it was February.
We got this hotel at a brilliant rate with Virgin.com and after turning up, i am sure a mistake was made as we should have paid way more than what we did.
All staff were more than accomodating, the doorman were very helpful and friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Washington and our stay at Hotel Palomar, i wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
