its a very nice small hotel, Belize was very nice, San Pedro is a small town so there not that many activities to do with in the town so most of the activities are a ride away ..
You could go into the beach but most people don't since there's plants growing all around so it doesn't seem so clean to go in but if you can find a clean area you could go in, and there is one area not that far from mata rokcs that you could go to.
In all of the reviews i heard great things about the owners, too bad i never saw them in my stay, but the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Just returned from nine amazing nights at Mata Rocks in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye in Belize! My husband and I, with our three grown children - all on spring break from college - enjoyed every aspect of our vacation, especially our choice of resorts, Mata Rocks! We can't think of one negative thing to say about Mata Rocks. It's in the perfect location, just enough south of town for peace and quiet, but close enough to walk; it's small, beautiful and incredibly spotless - all the time! Their beach is small as well, but intimate and cozy. All staff were friendly, helpful and hard working. Fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed orange juice, coffee and sweet rolls every morning was a nice touch. On-site bar was convenient. Complimentary use of bikes was a bonus! We returned from our vacation well rested, well fed, suntanned and in awe! Thank you Mata Rocks!!!

My wife and I stayed at Mata Rocks Resort for 7 nights and had a wonderful experience. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff is excellent. The location makes it an easy walk to downtown San Pedro. We found it best to walk the beach, rather than the street. It was shady and cool, while the street could be quite warm. The girls at the Squirrel's Nest Bar at the hotel are terrific and can furnish quite helpful information about local restaurants and activities. The continental breakfast is alright but we walked to town almost every morning and ate breakfast at Estelle's. She is the queen of eggs. The diving is fabulous, the best we've ever experienced. You must do Shark Ray Alley. When we go back to Belize we will again choose Mata Rocks.

Mata Rocks was a very nice place to stay, we were only there for 2 days so hard to get a real feel for the place the staff were very accomodating to us with a late checkout our last day because of scuba as there was no one coming into the room after we left.
I do feel that I was taken advantage of at the bar, drinks were unbelievably expensive, but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. My reccomendation would be to buy your booze in town and keep it in the fridge.
Sadly the weather for us was not nice when we were here, so we didn't go into the water once except for scuba, which was amazing!
