We chose to stay at the San Ignacio Hotel because of its central location in San Ignacio and because of the value it represented. We stayed in a balcony room.
Pros:
Beautiful lobby
Nice grounds / pool (although you do have to make a "donation" to use the trails)
Rooms were in good condition
Friendly Staff
Cons:
Furniture in rooms was a little outdated
Service at dinner wasn't that good, food took well over an hour to be served
We had a billing error that took work to get resolved
Tours were 15-20% more expensive than what you could book in town a short walk away (and they said prices were going to be raised soon)
In summary the hotel was nice and reasonably priced. The hotel is in a central location to take advantage of all the things to do in the area. The tours are cheaper to book in town (although for Tikal you might want to go through the hotel as it is a long ride and you will probably not have many other people along with you when booking through the hotel). In addition, we enjoyed dining in town, as we found it somewhat cheaper and the food to be more varied. We did have one billing issue that did prove to be an annoyance, however, I don't think this is a systemic issue.
