“Oasis in the Desert!”

San Ignacio Resort Hotel

I took my three adult children and sister-in-law and spent 7 nights at this lovely hotel. The newly renovated lobby and other public areas were beautiful and clean. Backing onto the Macal River, you felt like you were deep in the jungle when sitting by the pool, with no visible buildings around. The staff were excellent; very friendly and accomodating. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and great drinks, especially the "Horny Monkey" which my daughter took a particular shine to! The pool was kept clean, our balcony rooms were private and we enjoyed many breakfasts outdoors after walking into town and buying fresh baking and fruit from the street vendors. San Ignacio is an excellent place to do day trips from and we enjoyed Mayan ruins, cave tubing and zip lining to mention just a few. The hotel was very helpful in assisting us in a day trip with an awesome guide. This area will show you what the "real" Belize is like and get you away from the crowds on the coast. It is well worth a trip to.

We stayed here in January and because the hotel was full had to upgrade to a regal room, which was something of a let down as our view was a tin roof. We did have a four poster bed and a smart bathroom, but the bed was set up such that we couldn't see the television nor feel the effects of the fan. The cheaper balcony rooms overlooking the garden might not be so fancy but feel much nicer. Having said that the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble, we left our luggage for several days, and organised a gift certificate for friends and it was all done with efficiency and a smile. The food was good too, whether down by the pool or in the restaurant. The setting is beautiful, iguanas basking on the walls by the pool and stunning flowers everywhere. The honeymoon suite upstairs was wonderful, if you are looking for something special. If you are not stick with the balcony/ garden rooms.

“Best in Belize !”

San Ignacio Resort Hotel

What a wonderful hotel; probably the best three star hotel I have ever experiencd. The charming helpfulness of the staff has to get the first mention, followed by the excellent food - and I like my food! We probably stayed in the best room which was lovely but most others I saw also looked good. I didn't like the bar decor much but had all drinks on the patio and the barman was first class. The rates are very good value for money. This place is a haven in slightly remote and fascinating caribbean outpost. A perfect launch pad for several excusions and great experiences, ideal for a daytrip to Tikal in Guatemala. Don't visit Belize without a night or more in this glorious and friendly hotel!!

“Great food, great room!”

My boyfriend and I stayed here in January on our way to Tikal in Guatemala. Not only was the food terrific- especially the Belizean
specials- but the staff was more helpful and friendly than any other I have encountered in 20 years of travel in Central America. Well trained, courteous and efficient. They even booked an air conditioned car from the Guatemalan border to Tikal, a considerable savings over the package plans offered by tour companies in town and all to ourselves! We stayed in a huge room with a four poster and it was as if we were on a honeymoon, enjoying Piña coladas by the pool and rum punches on the balcony overlooking the jungle. Take the tour of their iguana farm at the foot of the hill-worth the price of the donation to the program which is replentishing the iguanas to the nearby river. We stayed away from the bar- boring US businessmen on the prowl or shouting on their cel phones. Try their Fry Jack- puffs of friend dough served with breakfast. All in all a GREAT stay!

“San Ignacio Hotel - Good Experience”

San Ignacio Resort Hotel

We chose to stay at the San Ignacio Hotel because of its central location in San Ignacio and because of the value it represented. We stayed in a balcony room.

Pros:
Beautiful lobby
Nice grounds / pool (although you do have to make a "donation" to use the trails)
Rooms were in good condition
Friendly Staff

Cons:
Furniture in rooms was a little outdated
Service at dinner wasn't that good, food took well over an hour to be served
We had a billing error that took work to get resolved
Tours were 15-20% more expensive than what you could book in town a short walk away (and they said prices were going to be raised soon)

In summary the hotel was nice and reasonably priced. The hotel is in a central location to take advantage of all the things to do in the area. The tours are cheaper to book in town (although for Tikal you might want to go through the hotel as it is a long ride and you will probably not have many other people along with you when booking through the hotel). In addition, we enjoyed dining in town, as we found it somewhat cheaper and the food to be more varied. We did have one billing issue that did prove to be an annoyance, however, I don't think this is a systemic issue.
