We stayed at Cahal Pech for a week and really enjoyed it. Our driver was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport exactly as planned. We booked all our tours through the hotel and found all of the guides to be very knowledgeable and interesting. The hotel staff were wonderful; they were very flexible as to our re-arranging our itenerary as we went along (it rained pretty much the whole week). Service was great - drivers, guides, front desk, waiters - all went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Food ranged from good to great and there was plenty of choice. We had chosen the meal plan and our only complaint was we were not pleased with the exra upcharges for most of the supper meals. We stayed in a cabana and loved it although the mosquitoes were bad due to the rain. We could have asked to be moved to the hotel as many of our fellow guests did but chose not to. Those who did move to the hotel loved it and the staff were very helpful and considerate with relocating them. From talking to staff the owners appear to treat their staff very well and and complaints from staff or travelers are listened to and acted upon. I would definitely stay there again. Note - The ATM tour was the highlight of our whole vacation I would certainly recommend it but do it last as everything else pales in comparison.

“Nice Accommodations, Great Base for Trips”

Cahal Pech Village Resort

15 Mar 2008

I had not picked this resort, so was hesitant. We were booked by our tour operator, Global Travel and were pleasantly surprised. Nice view over the town and grounds. Lots of birds in the morning which we enjoyed watching from the comfy screened porch of our cabana. The posted photos of the cabanas and hotel grounds are very accurate. Nicely decorated, clean and comfortable, not luxury, but excellent value. We did not experience any problems with water pressure. The resort seems to specialize in excursions: well organized and our guides and drivers were great. Trips not mentioned by others: If arriving from the airport, I highly recommend a stop at the Belize Zoo: 2 jaguars, ocelot, toucans, anteater, howler monkeys etc. Sigh at the photo of the late Steve Irwin. The Xunantunich Mayan Temples were impressive (not as much as Caracol) but definitely worth seeing: nice setting with pleasant views from the top and fairly close by. It included river tubing down the Mopan River: very relaxing, fun, nicely treed. Do be aware of extra charges if meals are included. The food was decent. Not fine dining but good. The staff are really nice. Saw them host a wedding reception. They did a very nice job. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in petty complaints about slightly slow service and checkout. Relax and get into a slower pace. You're on vacation...

My husband & I stopped here for lunch after visiting the ruins at Cahal Pech. The restaurant overlooks the resort, its pretty pool area and the town of San Ignacio, providing a pleasant view while you dine. The service was a bit slow,as may be typical for the area, but the menu was impressive compared to other local restaurants we'd visited. We tried a couple of Belizean dishes which proved to be flavorful and satisfying, if not a bit over-priced.

We decided to return the following evening for dinner, and were seated near the pool deck on plastic chairs. Once again, service was slow, and the waitress, while pleasant, confused my order so my husband had long finished his meal before I received mine. Only apologies were offered. My husband's steak was beautifully presented, though tough. My meal was better in appearance than flavor (a decidedly Asian influence in seasoning) and, we felt, overpriced for the quality.

An acceptable experience, but not exceptional.

My fiancee and I spent 3 nights at Cahal Pech (Feb 8, 9 & 10). Overall it was a good stay but with a few problems. We booked an all-inclusive package directly with the resort which included transportation to and from the airport. This was a major bonus. Once in San Ignacio there is really no reason to have a car since tour transportation is provided, part of the town is walking distance and a cab ride is only $5 US per trip (note this is for 1 to 6 people, so best if you can get a group).

The Cabanas were simple and clean. We were expecting a "cabin" feeling and this is what we got. However, our cabana did not have "closet" space or dressers if we wanted to fully unpack our bags. The ground were well tendent and the pool is very nice.

Since we had a package we ate all our meals at the resort. The food was good but after talking to some other guests, we missed out by not going into town to try some of the other places.

On one of our trips, we got left behind because of a miscommunication as to the number of people taking the tour. However, they got us a driver and were able to get us caught up with our tour group. There were some other miscommunication issues that were easily resolved. The guides are all employees of the resort. The ones were had did a good job, were friendly and pretty knowledgeable.

Check out was slow and there were some mischarges that we had to get corrected. We did find out there had been some staffing changes a couple weeks prior to our arrival that contributed to some of the problems. The front desk help and tour coordinator had changed so they were trying to get reorganized.

Overall this is definitely a good value. Would recommend staying here if budget is an issue or you a looking for a comfortable place to sleep and not looking for a luxury resort.

We stayed at the Cahal Pech Resort on Feb. 8 & 9 and were a little disappointed. We had booked a cabana for three people and were given one with two levels. The bottom level of the cabana was very musty smelling and dark. Upstairs was better. The morning we left, we had absolutely no water pressure. Not only couldn't we shower, we couldn't flush the toilet or run water to rinse our toothbrushes. Check out took over 45 minutes. Not sure what the problem was but the woman who was checking us out kept telling us she needed a few more minutes. She'd then go back to the computer and we had to stand there waiting. There was a small error on our bill but we had already waited so long that we decided to just pay it rather than wait another hour for her to fix it up.
The view of San Ignacio is nice and we liked being walking distance to town but think that the hotel is overrated. Would likely not stay there again.
