Cahal Pech Resort is a beautiful property. I had seen it 13 years ago on my first trip to Belize, and this time, returning, I decided to stay there.

We booked the Family Cabana with Air Conditioning. This was a cabana with an upstairs and downstairs. We had 4 full sized beds and 2 bathrooms. Each level also had a television and air conditioning unit. The screened porch with chairs and a hammock was really, really nice too. Unfortunately, we had some issues with the air conditioning. We ran it for almost three hours and nothing had cooled down at all. The staff was outstanding, responding immediately to our needs. They came to check the air conditioners and agreed that they were not properly functioning. They offered to have maintenance check them or to move us to another room.

We opted for another room as it was getting late and we were all too hot and too tired. We could take two cabanas that did not connect from the inside (putting our teen girls in their own unit) or we could take the 2 bedroom suite in the main building, which we were told had a balcony and a wonderful view.

Wanting to keep our family together, we opted for the suite in the main building. In retrospect, I kind of wish we'd taken the two cabanas. The cabanas are much newer and are really fun to stay in with the screened porches. They are also very roomy.

The suite in the main building was adequate. It was clean and the air conditioners worked well. It just wasn't eye pleasing like the cabanas and there wasn't as much space. The paint on the walls was peeling, the colors were kind of odd. We had a kitchen with a fridge, which was great! A microwave and a sink, plus a kitchen table. It was in a very small kitchen area, but it worked. The bathroom was pretty small and the shower was wacky...it couldn't be moved...it sprayed wildly all over the place, but the water pressure was good! We had a "family room" with a couch and tv. The furniture in the suite was like your grandma's early 1970's stuff. The two bedrooms were bare, but clean. We had a single bed, a 3/4 bed, a full bed and a queen. The balcony was small, and accessed from one bedroom through a solid door, but as promised, the view was really nice. So in summary, the room was clean and usable, just not "pretty". Hahaha!

The staff, however, was amazing. They were very helpful and did whatever they could to make us comfortable, which we really appreciated. The swimming pools were clean and felt great to swim in. There is a big teradactyl bird statue that spews water...my son asked if they would turn it on and they graciously did. The food at the restaurant was moderately priced...more expensive than town, but not crazy priced like most resorts. It was delicious and the staff there was also very accommodating.

I would stay here again, but I would also be curious to check out the San Ignacio Hotel. I had a bad experience there 13 years ago, but the place has completely changed, so who knows!

This was our 3rd stay at Cahal Pech and each stay has been wonderful. The staff seem to bend over backwards to accomodate us, the food is excellent and the pools (yes, I said pools, there are 2) are BEAUTIFUL! Another great thing is the view! Fabulous! You have a choice of staying in the lodge or in the individual cabanas---I love the cabana!! You have your own screened in porch with a hammock! Talk about relaxation! We have loved this place all 3 times we have stayed there and look forward to staying there again!

Look no further fotr the best place to stay in San Ignacio. Lovely rooms, views, and a great restaurant with good prices. But best of all is the staff - everyone was friendly, really fun, and provided great service. Book thru the Cahal Pech website (cahelpech.com) - do NOT book thru the Belize Explorer Travel website. I did and it was a huge mistake, lots of problems but all were take care of by Cahal Pech management.

We stayed at Cahal Pech for a week and really enjoyed it. Our driver was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport exactly as planned. We booked all our tours through the hotel and found all of the guides to be very knowledgeable and interesting. The hotel staff were wonderful; they were very flexible as to our re-arranging our itenerary as we went along (it rained pretty much the whole week). Service was great - drivers, guides, front desk, waiters - all went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Food ranged from good to great and there was plenty of choice. We had chosen the meal plan and our only complaint was we were not pleased with the exra upcharges for most of the supper meals. We stayed in a cabana and loved it although the mosquitoes were bad due to the rain. We could have asked to be moved to the hotel as many of our fellow guests did but chose not to. Those who did move to the hotel loved it and the staff were very helpful and considerate with relocating them. From talking to staff the owners appear to treat their staff very well and and complaints from staff or travelers are listened to and acted upon. I would definitely stay there again. Note - The ATM tour was the highlight of our whole vacation I would certainly recommend it but do it last as everything else pales in comparison.

“Nice Accommodations, Great Base for Trips”

Cahal Pech Village Resort

15 Mar 2008

I had not picked this resort, so was hesitant. We were booked by our tour operator, Global Travel and were pleasantly surprised. Nice view over the town and grounds. Lots of birds in the morning which we enjoyed watching from the comfy screened porch of our cabana. The posted photos of the cabanas and hotel grounds are very accurate. Nicely decorated, clean and comfortable, not luxury, but excellent value. We did not experience any problems with water pressure. The resort seems to specialize in excursions: well organized and our guides and drivers were great. Trips not mentioned by others: If arriving from the airport, I highly recommend a stop at the Belize Zoo: 2 jaguars, ocelot, toucans, anteater, howler monkeys etc. Sigh at the photo of the late Steve Irwin. The Xunantunich Mayan Temples were impressive (not as much as Caracol) but definitely worth seeing: nice setting with pleasant views from the top and fairly close by. It included river tubing down the Mopan River: very relaxing, fun, nicely treed. Do be aware of extra charges if meals are included. The food was decent. Not fine dining but good. The staff are really nice. Saw them host a wedding reception. They did a very nice job. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in petty complaints about slightly slow service and checkout. Relax and get into a slower pace. You're on vacation...
