This hotel has some nice touches, like a decent pool and cozy cabanas. However, we were not pleased to find undisclosed charges on our bill at the end of our stay. The charges added up to about $10 US per night, and the only explanation given was that the charges were "normal" charges for room cleaning. When I explained that clean rooms were usually part of the bargain of a hotel price, the story changed, and I was told that the charges somehow related to the exchange rate.

My wife and I stayed in a thatched roof cabana for 4 nights. Living like the locals is a little like 'roughing it' by American terms. We had to use the air conditioning several nights because we could not sleep comfortably - hot & humid even at night. The view was great from our front porch - Wow. Very relaxing hanging in the hammock. We booked the Adventure Package. We loved the ATM cave!! It was VERY physical and a true adventure. Some of the tours were not as interesting as I would have liked. For example, the Lost Valley of the Mayans was fun because we hiked through the jungle but the sights were disappointing. Our guides were great on all of the tours. I wish that we could have seen more Mayan ruins. The Cahal Pech ruin behind the hotel is worth checking out. The service at the resort is great and the food is excellent! The beds are comfortable. The rooms are large and functional. I highly recommend this resort. Great for kids too.

Our three week vacation in Guatemala and Belize included three nights at Cahal Pech Village Resort. As there were three of us, we had the choice of a suite, as part of their three-story hotel, or a private cabin, which we opted for. The cabins were removed from the busy activity of hotel and pool area, and included a wonderful large screened-in porch complete with hammock, a room fan though no air conditioner, and private bath. We had two double beds in our room and paid approximately $95 a night minus a discount, due to some confusion over their initial quote when we contacted them by phone.
Located in the hills above San Ignacio, the hotel is well situated to catch the breezes of afternoon and evening. The hotel includes two lovely pools, one of which caters to children with its imaginative spray fountain, and a covered, outdoor restaurant. The staff is polite, helpful and efficient, and caters to both English and Spanish speakers. They were quite helpful with in-town restaurant and tour recommendations.
The hotel itself is directly across from the Maya ruin Cahal Pech, just outside the town of San Ignacio, and is a short walk from a local bus that can drop you at the famous Maya ruin Xunantunich.

“Great time at Cahal Pech”

Cahal Pech Village Resort

22 Apr 2008

We decide to stay at the Cahal Pech on the recommendation of our daughter who works in San Ingnacio and we were not disappointed.

We had a cabana with a great balcony and hammock overlooking the town and distant hills. although it was up to the mid 90s (f) we did not need to use the air conditioning as it cooled down nicely to around 70 at night - and anyway the heat was great after the cold of the UK.

To cool down during the day there are 2 well kept pools and an open bar nearby serving great cocktails. In the evening we ate in the semi-open restaurant, the food was really good with a fairly extensive menu - well done chef!. Our thanks to the great waiters and bar staff who could not do enough for you and to reception who helped us book flights to the coast for a few days.

My husband and I stayed at Cahal Pech Village for our wedding and honeymoon in January 2008. We absolutely loved it! Cahal Pech Village made all the arrangements for our wedding and ended up bending over backwards to make sure all of the paperwork was in order. We were nervous that things wouldn't turn out, but they always assured us that everything would be fine...and it was...better than fine, actually, it was great. We really enjoyed the tours from the hotel. The tour guides were very helpful and we always felt safe. We were often the only people on the tours. We loved the location of the hotel because it was easy to get to all the tours we went on. We went cave tubing, the ATM tour, Caracol, Tikal, Xunantunich, and walked down the hill to the Cahal Pech Mayan site. We were really glad we went on the ATM tour because it was definitely worth the long hike to the cave. Remember to bring or wear socks though, as they don't allow shoes or bare feet in the dry chamber. Going to Tikal in Guatemala was a dream come true because I have read about the site since I was a little kid. We also found the food at the hotel to be the best in the area. My husband and I would love to come again soon. Thanks to Tanya, Hugo and the rest of the staff for making our stay and wedding wonderful!
