“Adventure experience in nice nature”

Casa Maya Eco Resort

4 Nov 2007

Casa Maya is a resort that is obviously not so very well known. We and a French couple had the resort for ourselves and there were some friends of the owners from the States which in the end made us feel like part of the family.
Big cabanas with big bath rooms and a beautiful nature surround the hotel. We booked the full meal plan for a special rate but had half of our meals outside - in the end we regretted that we did not eat more often at the hotel as they made a mixture of nice Centralamerican food and German specialities (we never had Schnitzel or red cabbage vegetable with a kind of bread-egg-balls called knoedel but it tasted delicious and obviously the people from Texas requested this stuff). Very nice house keeping stuff (Cretelle?!!) and a relaxing athmosphere for a good price.
We heard that Casa Maya was for sale - this place has real great options for the future.

“nice - friendly - eco and emotions”

We staid at Casa Maya for one week last month and it was outstanding. Who could ever expect air condition - they do not sell any air condition on their website and it is ECO! Eco means to care for nature and not to waste energy. There are still people who do not understand how much we destroy our own base for living in using so much air condition and it is unhealthy anyway.

Huge cabanas with huge and new bath rooms (what about a small decoratiion in these big bath rooms - they seem empty?). Very nice service, excellent food, lot of Central American specialties and no hamburgers and sandwiches like in so many restaurants in town. Great nature, nice small pool and always locals at the bar so that we could chat with local people.
It is an excperience for our memory and to come back again!

...and there were nice other guests!

“Honeymoon Horrors”

Casa Maya Eco Resort

9 Aug 2007

No air conditioning, ceiling leaked all over our bed, Winnie the Pooh comforters, showers don't work, no locks on the doors, and didn't live up to anything that the web site says. The manager basically just doesn't give a crap.

If you're looking for a night out in the "jungle" this is fine - but don't expect anything other than "glorified camping." Not worth the money. We had issue after issue - not what you want to have on your honeymoon.

Ended up staying at Casa Maya downtown in San Ignacio instead... and that was WONDERFUL and only $45/night!

“best place of our journey”

Casa Maya Eco Resort

4 Jul 2007

After more than 15 years in Spanish and Canarian destinations I decided to risk a journey outside Europe and my partner and me did a tour around Centroamerica - Mexico, Belice, Guatemala. Europeans "deserve" more vacation and we travelled 4 full weeks and stayed at very nice hotel.
The best place of the whole journey was Casa Maya resort near San Ignacio in Belice. Everything was just above our expectations. There were nice cabanas with new and spacious bath rooms and we had great food (not just food from the area and specialties from local cooks but also a great BBQ together with locals on Sunday at noon and the party took till midnight (without disturbing the sleep in the cabanas) . There were even local politicians at the fiesta and we had the opportunity to discuss political problems of the country.
Everyone was so open and welcoming. Theré's a nice swimming pool - it really needs a ladder! and an amazing nature, very friendly people and the whole place is in great condition.
I liked very much this special service (usually if a place has low occupancy you expect the service to drop but at Casa Maya the service was the best!).
I recommend this place to everyone who want to stay in the middle of nature, have culture around, adventure and romance - it was a brillant experiance.

“Nice 'surf & turf' experience”

Casa Maya Eco Resort

After a gorgeous 'surf & turf' experience with Casa Maya and Salamander Hideaway we actually stay at our last stop in Mexico City.
The experience at Casa Maya and Salamander was overall very nice. They both have a perfect organisation to pick you up from the airport, carry you over to their places and switch you over to the second place. Nice excursions for just us 2 with a very knowledable guide, nice food, a perfect service and this "sorrow-free" package that includes everything but the drinks was an even better experience than we expected.
We recommend both places for an overall impression of Central America for everybody who doesn't want the touristy Yucatan-all-inclusive-automated-vacation. You get everything: Information about country and people, adventure, jungle, town life (and don't miss the market on Saturdays in San Ignacio), beach, barrier reef with hundreds of species of fish, fishing, snorkeling and real authentic and nice food.
We surely will come back
:-)
