Well what can I say? We're thoroughly impressed with our stay at Ka'anna.
Romantic, intimate, refreshing and beautiful are my selected adjectives for this wonderful boutique resort nestled quaintly in the Cayo district of Belize.
We spent four nights at this property because they were running a summer special that offered us a 4th night free for spending three nights, a 60 minutes massage for me and my fiancé, a complimentary lunch (with no guidelines!), assorted fruit basket and nice welcome drinks (we opted for non-alcoholic)!
We rented a car from Discount Car Belize (one of the more reasonably priced car rental companies) and took off for Ka'anna! The western highway is a fun drive which is well paved, easily accessible for anyone who wants to drive themselves. I do believe Ka'anna's shuttle fee is way too expensive.
Once we arrived we were immediately upgraded from our queen room reservation to a King Villa, free of charge! Now how is that for a welcome!? The villa was breathtaking! HUGE beautiful king sized bed with fresh white linens and a very nice down comforter. Huge 42" LCD TV mounted on the wall was very nice along with a large assortment of channels and HBO (we liked Discovery and National Geographic to keep us in the adventure mood), remote controlled AC was nice and cool and convenient and French doors that led to a large personal wooden veranda that opened up into the jungle. The entire villa is decorated with beautiful mayan artwork and sculptures crafted by locals, which creates the perfect atmosphere and ambience for a place like this. The bathroom was awesome with dual bowl sinks and a walk in shower with unlimited (it seemed) hot water. Did I mention the place was spotless and draped with fresh exotic flowers when we arrived?
We adventured very, very hard, and it was soo nice to come back to stress-free bliss like Ka'anna. Room service was quick, staff was very nice, helpful and polite, and the food was delicious and very very reasonably priced. I'm not a huge food critic, but there was a great ethnic assortment that allows you to taste the local dishes, or have a nice taste of home if you like.
Here is my only con to be advised of: Ka'anna charges for their tours on parties based of 4. If there are only two of you, this can be VERY expensive. If this is the case, I suggest finding yourself a tour company that charges per person, and will accommodate only two (this is especially applicable in the off-season). Email me for suggestions. Staff at the "activity desk" wasn't very helpful when it came to these adventures as an FYI. We saw Tikal, Xunantunich, ATM, etc.. Again, this is only an advisory, and in no way should stop you from staying at this resort, just setup your tours in advanced if you're on a budget and don't want to pay for four people if there’s only two of you!
The spa was very nice, a little too cold inside, and the massage wasn't the best I've gotten, but very relaxing with hot stones.
A special thank you to Ka'anna, for making two crazy adventurers at home. We had the adventure of our lives in Tikal and ATM, and found peace and warmth after our strenuous, dirty, sweaty and long adventures!
