We spent four days at Lamanai and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is over an hour boat ride, which was enjoyable as our guide pointed out wildlife along the way. The grounds are very well kept, like a lush tropical garden. They have a nice dock where we enjoyed the breeze off the lagoon while we read or just relaxed, enjoying the birds and the view of the lagoon. We liked the open-air restaurant and enjoyed a variety of very well cooked breakfasts and dinners. The wait staff was excellent, bringing food promptly, but without hovering. The cabins with thatched roofs are roomy and kept clean. We had no bugs in the room and very few outside. The guides were great on local tours. They were very knowledgeable about flora and fauna and have an uncanny ability to spot birds and other wildlife.

All in all, a very enjoyable experience. We would certainly return.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Lamanai Outpost Lodge. A perfect setting to enjoy the Mayan ruins, and learn a lot about the local culture! We were met at the airport immediately after landing, driven to the New River where Mauricio met us and took us by boat to Lamanai. Our room was immaculately clean and comfortable, and we had a wonderful view of the Lagoon right outside which provided heavenly breezes all the time. The food was fantastic and the bar had anything you might want! Danny our bartender, Mirna our waitress and our guides Mauricio, Ruben, and Arturo, as well as the rest of the staff all made our visit most enjoyable! We loved the spotlight safari, sunset cruise, airboat ride, trip to the Mayan ruins and Mayan Medicine walk! So much to do, so little time! If you are bored here, it is your own fault!

We spent 4 days in Lamani and it was the most enjoyable leg of our travel around the region.
Overall service and friendliness of the staff was excellent which was complimented by very impressive knowledge of the guides who left us spellbound with their quality and in depth knowledge on all topics.
Location was breath taking over looking the lagoon with nature at its best - most amazing wildlife all in its natural habitat right outside your cabana.
Excellent trips were included in the package.
Well worth visiting and for sure somewhere we plan to visit again in the near future.

We spent 3 nights here as part of our driving holiday in Belize and it was way too long! Unfortunately, we had pre-booked so we were stuck. One or 2 nights would have been more than enough. The reason for choosing this resort was its proximity to the Lamanai Mayan ruins which is a 5 minute up the road.
The lodge has a beautiful garden setting on the New River Lagoon but is extremely isolated. There is nothing to do there,
except the hotel excursions which didn't appeal to us. If you're a
hard-core birder it's the place for you or a senior who likes passive nature walks. There is nothing else in the area except for the ruins.
Lamanai is a beautiful mayan ruin in a jungle setting which is 80 percent unexcavated. It was somewhat disappointing compared to Tikal, but there was a lot of wildlife in the park. It is worth visiting if you can't do the long trek to Tikal.
Back to the hotel..... The open air restaurant was very attractive.
The menu is pre-set . You have no other option except for the one meal on the menu. It was quite expensive and unvaried. Lots of tortillas.
The lodge caters mainly to all-inclusive package holidays which
are exhorbitantly priced in my opinion. Not worth it!!!!

We also stayed at Caye Chapel as well as Blancaneaux (both around the same price range) and this was the best. From the personalized service and wonderful local food(my husband is vegetarian).. if you are looking for a different experience (not a 5 star american resort experience), this is for you. It is expensive, but decent value considering that it is all inclusive.
The sunrise morning cruise, Lamanai ruins tour (we happened to be there on a day when it was deserted), and Mayan medicine walk were our favorite activities.
The huts were quaint and the resort, set in the jungle, was a fun experience overall.

  • Liked — Laid back and great service, culture
  • Disliked — nothing
