Last minute travels and a longing to visit southern Belize brought me to Ian and Kate, the proprietors of Hickatee Cottages. Located a mile outside of Punta Gorda and nestled in the middle of the jungle Ian and Kate provide maticulous service and scrumptious meals, with many ingredients from their own garden. Slept like a baby to the sounds of the jungle and will certainly be back! The ideal setting for anyone visiting P.G. Both are knolwedgeable about the area and committed to making a difference. Ian and Kate purchase whatever they can locally to support the community they now call home. Town is easy to navigate and be sure to check out some of the local restaurants and shops. The area offers a real opportunity to step back in time and see mother nature at her best.

Nothing less than lovely. It's been said before, but believe it: Ian and Kate are delightful hosts, the food is scrumptious, the rooms are wonderful. At the end, you'll probably make a bee line for your computer and write a good Trip Advisor review. The place has a quiet grace. It is impressively self-sufficient, from the bedspreads and curtains Kate made herself to the food grown in their garden.

Every meal we had at Hickatee was superior, which can not always be said in southern Belize. Kate cooks all meals to order, and makes fresh bread everyday. Ian serves with a friendly and professional attention to detail.

We were pleased with every detail during our week-long stay at Hickatee. You won't find a better value in all of Belize.

Hickatee Cottages is a very comfortable and attractive jungle lodge that is highlighted by the warm friendliness of the proprietors, Kate and Ian. Although Hickatee is only a mile and a half out of town, it truly is in the jungle. On two separate days, we were able to see a troupe of howler monkeys from the trails that wind through the property. The cottages are roomy and well-appointed, and the verandas are great for relaxing and watching for birds. Kate and Ian, who truly enjoy the company of their guests, make the place special and will provide you with extensive information about the Toledo area. The nearby Mayan villages provide a fascinating cultural experience, and the natural attractions (especially the Blue Creek caves and the offshore cayes) of the area make for adventures that you will always remember. The only drawback to exploring the Toledo area is the condition of most of the unpaved roads, so do be prepared for some bumpy rides on some of your excursions. Hickatee is a really wonderful place for the casual traveler and is a bargain compared to many other lodges in the country. We highly recommend it.
