It is one of the best places in the world - what else can you really say? It is as close to a little paradise as I can imagine. Secluded, but close. Comfortable, but not ostentatious. This was my second visit, and it was even more wonderful than the first. I lucked out, though, in that I really bonded with a lovely South African/English family that was staying there at the same time, and we had some really cool adventures together. But if this is going to happen anywhere in Belize, it will happen here. CAVEAT EMPTOR: if Ambergris Caye is YOUR idea of paradise, I think you should give Punta Gorda (in general) a miss. Kate and Ian, forgive me for that! I don't want to take any business away from Hickatee - but, you know...the synergy of the place is a combination of space, nature, incredible hosts and the kind of people who can appreciate such a unique environment!

I was drawn to Hickatee Cottages by their website and we are so glad that we managed to get to Punta Gorda over Easter. As a result we had the great pleasure of exploring, although ever so briefly, a bit of Toledo district. Kate and Ian are wonderful hosts; they accomodated our last minute requests and gracefully assisted us in continuing our travels. Kate and Ian organised a personal tour of a cacao farm and a trip to Blue Creek caves: both highlights of our trip to Belize.
The property, the food, the company are all exquisite.
What a wonderful retreat! Coffee on the porch first thing in the morning, listening to the sounds of birds! I would definetly go back just to relax at Hickatee cottages. My 11yr old son enjoyed the tour, the property, the hosts and Oscar, the cat.

It's really hard to write an original review, it's all been said already. It's even harder to sound objective, when every little detail is looked after and nothing is left to critique.
We travelled with a five month old baby and the hosts, Ian and Kate, made every effort to make our stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible. Kate is a wonderful chef, and we must say the dinners at on-site Charlie's Bar, were the best meals we had in our entire stay in Belize. Ian directed us to the best places to see in the Toledo district and didn't disappoint. The property was was even more beautiful than we expected. Cottages were well appointed and extremely clean, and the morning coffee on the veranda topped it off.
The next time we make our way down to Belize, Hickatee Cottages will be our first stop.
P.S. Keep your camera ready for the Hummingbirds that come within feet of you as you sip your morning coffee on the veranda.

Last minute travels and a longing to visit southern Belize brought me to Ian and Kate, the proprietors of Hickatee Cottages. Located a mile outside of Punta Gorda and nestled in the middle of the jungle Ian and Kate provide maticulous service and scrumptious meals, with many ingredients from their own garden. Slept like a baby to the sounds of the jungle and will certainly be back! The ideal setting for anyone visiting P.G. Both are knolwedgeable about the area and committed to making a difference. Ian and Kate purchase whatever they can locally to support the community they now call home. Town is easy to navigate and be sure to check out some of the local restaurants and shops. The area offers a real opportunity to step back in time and see mother nature at her best.
