13 members of my family stayed last January from the 9th to the 20th. We rented a vehicle at the airport and drove out to the Inn. I had never been out of the country before so this was going to be a real challenge or so I thought. I havent had spanish since 7th grade, I'm 51. My father has been studying the Myans since 1976 and is a noted expert. My uncle is an ornathologist and his skills are well used in this area. The Inn being out in the jungle, you dont have to go anywhere to experience it. My family was out and about daily. I did what I could, which was hindered by my knee. I spent more time at the Inn and short walks. I was captivated just sitting on my little front porch of our, my daughter's and my bungalow. The birds and butterflies were a daily show. The grounds were immaculate. The pool was a daily activity and always spotless. It was there I watched the spider monkey show in the trees above the bench swing. The staff are all very friendly. Most did not speak english and I did not speak spanish but I was able to get my needs or wants across. I did become very friendly with a couple of the boys who work the front desk, the mangers and waitter/waittress, they all could speak english in different degrees. The Inn is not on the grid, so lights out at 10 pm, my favorite time. Thats when I would go out and walk around. The stars in the sky and then the fireflies on the ground was amazing. The quiet allows you to hear the night sounds of the jungle, the howler monkeys make the strangest sound. During the day I would watch how this Inn worked. It was amazing to watch the kids, to me, being 51, do the daily chores of cleaning the rooms, washing and hanging the linens, skimming the pool, cleaning the rafters in the lobby. They have internet available, which was fun to send out an email to my friends from Tikal. Carrie and I walked over to the museum and market. On the walk back we saw two big beautiful Osillating Turkeys right at the sign for the Inn. It was close to dusk and found out they can jump about 20' up into the trees and sleep in the ones that surround the Inn grounds. We took a day trip to do a cannopy tour, big time fun. The managers were very attentive and friendly. I was very sad when I had to say good bye. I would go back tomorrow if I could.

This was my third stay at this property. It has been a pleasant experience in the past, but seems to be going downhill. Twelve of us spent two nights the first of April. Between our six bungalows, two had no water. One unit (ours) was able to be repaired but the other folks had to relocate into another bungalow. Also, be VERY CAREFUL you don’t break any of their precious beer mugs -- I accidently kicked over a glass someone had set on the ground by the pool, and they charged me $4.00/US for breaking it! And although they state the generator will start up at 6:00pm, it is more likely to be 6:15 or 6:30 or even 6:40 one evening.

“Very nice place”

What a great experience to wake up so close to Tikal, hear howler monkeys and experience the sunrise without having to endure that long shuttle from Flores. The higher price for this hotel was worth it for the location alone. As a bonus, we had a pool and nice shady yard in which to relax during the heat of the day. Good food takes time to prepare, and we were thrilled with the breakfast and suppers that were included in our price. The staff were courteous and efficient. Yes, there is a room deposit in case of damage just like any other place you may stay at, we didn't find this out of the ordinary. About the only thing that I would recommend is a bit better reservation system, as they had emailed me a reservation number and I was happy I had a copy of this email to prove to the desk clerk that I was reserved to stay there. After this was sorted out, we couldn't have been better taken care of. Thank you Tikal Inn, From 4 backpackers from Canada.

“don't stay here”

I stayed here for several nights, and also stayed at the nearby Jaguar Inn.

I found this hotel to be very overpriced, the food was consistently awful, the service was slow and unfriendly. I waited over an hour for a plate of spaghetti one night (dinner was included in my room charge). I ended up walking over to the Jaguar Inn to eat there, because I could never bring myself to finish what the Tikal inn was serving me.

The only redeeming quality of the hotel was the pool, which I admit was nice to jump in after a day of hiking. However, if I could do it all again, I wouldn't go back.

“Hideous - to be avoided”

Hotel Tikal Inn

We booked here because all other hotels in the park were apparently fully booked. I had some trepidation and it was realised.

On arrival late evening we were presented with a list of hotel "rules" and asked for $120 deposit in case of room breakages. A quick look around the worn out reception with tired cane chairs told me this seemed unrealistic.

Tired, we were shown to our room. All it contained were 2 basic wooden beds, a small wooden table and a small wooden clothes hanging area. That was it. Absolutely nothing more.
I don't know quite what damage they thought we were capable of. We could have trashed several rooms and had change from that deposit.

The curtains in our room look like they'd never seen a washing machine in their life. The flooring reminded me of a hospital.

Bathrooms were not much better and certainly not very private. When we got a dodgy tummy (which we put down to the food at this hotel cos we were fine till then) everyone else nearby will here you. Hotel towels are, I am sure, made of pumice stone.

Electricity is only available between 06:00 to 08:00 or 18:00 to 20:00. This means early to rise and early to bed. As said elsewhere there is no air con so when it gets hot there is little relief.

Rooms seem very dark so you can't read in your room except when there is electricity.

Throughout our couple of days stay there was frequently a bad sewage smell. Especially near the pool area.

As a lover of food I am stunned at reviews that have suggested food is ok. Normally it took an hour for food to arrive and when it did it was stone cold. Traditional food options were limited to none.

Even on our last day when we were the first and only lunch diners the food still took ages (for Spagetti Pesto - just how long does it take to cook spagetti?). This is also a bad place to be a Veggie. Your choices will be very limited.

To be fair to the hotel grounds are rather nice and we spotted some great bird life but that was all I could find to recommed the hotel. Expect everything to cost extra.

If you can find somewhere better I would.
