13 members of my family stayed last January from the 9th to the 20th. We rented a vehicle at the airport and drove out to the Inn. I had never been out of the country before so this was going to be a real challenge or so I thought. I havent had spanish since 7th grade, I'm 51. My father has been studying the Myans since 1976 and is a noted expert. My uncle is an ornathologist and his skills are well used in this area. The Inn being out in the jungle, you dont have to go anywhere to experience it. My family was out and about daily. I did what I could, which was hindered by my knee. I spent more time at the Inn and short walks. I was captivated just sitting on my little front porch of our, my daughter's and my bungalow. The birds and butterflies were a daily show. The grounds were immaculate. The pool was a daily activity and always spotless. It was there I watched the spider monkey show in the trees above the bench swing. The staff are all very friendly. Most did not speak english and I did not speak spanish but I was able to get my needs or wants across. I did become very friendly with a couple of the boys who work the front desk, the mangers and waitter/waittress, they all could speak english in different degrees. The Inn is not on the grid, so lights out at 10 pm, my favorite time. Thats when I would go out and walk around. The stars in the sky and then the fireflies on the ground was amazing. The quiet allows you to hear the night sounds of the jungle, the howler monkeys make the strangest sound. During the day I would watch how this Inn worked. It was amazing to watch the kids, to me, being 51, do the daily chores of cleaning the rooms, washing and hanging the linens, skimming the pool, cleaning the rafters in the lobby. They have internet available, which was fun to send out an email to my friends from Tikal. Carrie and I walked over to the museum and market. On the walk back we saw two big beautiful Osillating Turkeys right at the sign for the Inn. It was close to dusk and found out they can jump about 20' up into the trees and sleep in the ones that surround the Inn grounds. We took a day trip to do a cannopy tour, big time fun. The managers were very attentive and friendly. I was very sad when I had to say good bye. I would go back tomorrow if I could.
