My new husband and i stayed at this hotel from 21/05/2012 - 04/06/2012 and it was hot hot hot!!! This was our first time in Morocco, and we were a little scared going outside of the hotel - but we didnt mind staying in becasue the hotel is wonderful!
Check in - We didnt arrive until midnight, but there was a cocktail waiting as soon as we got through the door, and the restraunt was left open for us to get something to eat and drink. There was also a bottle of champers in our room as it was our honeymoon - i thought that was a lovely touch!! Check in was really fast, and we got a map to show us where our room was.
Room - Biggest room i have stayed in - Massive bed (looked like 2 doubles pushed together - but with a sheet joining them) and it was very comfortable! There was a bath and a shower attached and the toilet was seperate which i liked. We were onthe ground floor which scared me a bit at first, but there were security men stood outside our block all night which was reassuring. The air conditioning was a god send!! Decent size TV which had ITV, BBC 1 and a movie channel! We only watched Corrie once though!!
Food - The food was delicious! I did have to buy the shop out of gaviscon though, because the tajines werevery oily! Take some rennies with you! For breakfast a chef cooked omlettes to your liking, there were eggs, crumpets, pancakes, ratatouille, beans - and i used to make a toastie by toasting bread and putting turkey and cheese in it from the continental breakfast! Yum! There was a BBQ every day for Lunch which had the most delicious burgers ever! Plus there was pizza and Paninis and a selection of Moroccon food such as tagines and cous cous. Dinner was very nice - again cous cous, tagines, battered fish, pizza, chicken, beef skewers, kebabs, monkfish, chips, mash... the list goes on!! We tried the Moroccan which was very authentic - but we went to the Italian twice as this was my favourite! Tomatoes with mozerella, pasta, pizza, lasagne, calamarie, and the range of puddings in all restraunts was immense!!
Staff - All staff were very very friendly - but you do need to tip to get extra service! When we tipped themaid she made swans and things out of the towels with rose petals! If you tip the barmen they come and fill your drinks as soon as you have finished. The pool boys get you the comfy beds if you give them a tip!!
Trips - We did the discover Marrakech - dont do this! Its 10 hours of walking round listening to the history of Marrakech (which for the first hour was quiet interesting) but then it got very boring, and with the heat became unbearable. When they take you to the souks they dont let you stop to have a look around, and you only get 45 minutes free time - where we got taken to the guides friends shop, who wouldnt let us leave without buying something!! They also take you to a chemist and con you into buying herbs and lotions and potions you dont actually need! Just tell the guide that you want to be taken to the main square, as this takes up an hour of your free time! We went to the Fantasia Show - which was ok - apart from the dinner lasts about 3 hours and the actual show lasted about 20 minutes. We also went to Essoria - its not worth the 4 hours it took to get there - again stopping off at factories being pushed into buying oils and lotions (there was a tree with several goats up it on the way - that was quite amusing - but if you take a pic of the tree - they want tipping!) A lot of people said the Atlas Mountain and Quad Bikes were good - but we wanted to relax!
Pool - The pool is huge, and starts off where you can walk in, then goes up to your chest. There were daily activites around the pool, and we tried 'aqau gym' once which was a lot of fun!! The pool was very clean, and you could swim up to the bar and get a drink, then swim back! The pool is very cold - but just jump straight in!!! Get it over and done with!
Drinks - The drinks were very good but they could do with getting some pint glasses for the lager!!! There is a big range of cocktails, and if your poison isnt on the menu they will make it up for you. The wines were suprisingly good and a white wine with lunch was delicious! I also tried vodka and fanta lemon - delish!! If you want it a bit stronger (like me) just ask them to make it a big un!
Entertainment - The entertainment staff were brilliant!! My husband was gutted if it was one of their days off!! Special mention to Khalid - he should be a professional dancer! He is hilarious, and boy can he dance! Riverdance, ballet, balroom, and the best Michael Jackson ever!!! They do a show every night at 9.30pm and some reviews say it is amateurish - but its not! Its really really good! It kept us entertained!! After the show they sometimes do karaoke as well which is ace!
The hotel overall is very very good - i just wish it wasnt so far away from everything, thats why i didnt give it 5 stars. I want to go back tomorrow!!!!
Book it, you wont be disappointed!!!!!
