“an oasis of calm”

Dar Silsila

14 Jul 2008

We have just come back from Dar Silsila, in Marrakech. This is a truly stylish riad which is an oasis of calm after all the hustle and bustle of the souks and streets of Marrakech.
Jean-Patrik and his staff could not do enough for us and made the whole trip easy by giving us good advice as to where to go and where to eat. The restaurants he sent us to and booked for us were amazing and he even tipped off one - dar Moha - that it was my husband's birthday. He arranged for us to have a table by the pool and it was a perfect evening.
We only stayed 4 nights in Marrakech but it felt like more because, with the assistance of Jean-Patrik, we packed a lot in, including a trip to the Atlas Mountains.
We'll be back!

We have just returned from our first visit to Marrakech and stayed in the Dar Silsila Riad which was a fabulous experience.

It is in an excellent location, down one of the narrow alleyways in the Medina, centre of old town area, and is a wonderful peaceful hidden gem, very quiet, with two attractive patio areas inside.

It also has a small roof garden, which is great early in the morning or early evening when it is not too hot.

The rooms are very comfortable, the service excellent, staff very helpful and we would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting the character and charm of a small Riad, with a very central location.

Dar Silsila and its wonderful proprietor, Jean Patrick, made my stay in Marrakech a joy. What a beautiful place to come "home" to every night and wake up to every morning. I stayed at this sumptuous riad for a total of a week, consisting of a few days at the start of my trip and a couple of nights at the end. I stayed first in the junior suite, then in a regular room, both of which were very comfortable and soothing. The dinner I had at the riad on the first night was delicious (20 Euro), and breakfast every morning always included very good strong coffee, fresh orange juice and traditional "pancake" like cakes made in their kitchen. As a woman traveling alone, I found Dar Silsila perfect for me. Whenever I needed anything -- internet access, direction on where to go and what to do in Marrakech, tickets to Essaouira, or transport to the airport -- Jean Patrick took care of it. He really knows Morocco and how to help the weary traveler. The decor in this riad is inspiring. Jean Patrick's staff are very helpful, and most speak English. I give this riad the highest recommendation.

Even though it has all been said, our stay in Dar Silsila was perfect. Even when there was a problem, which is not even worth mentioning Jean Patrick went all out to solve things, making you feel like it was never a problem.
We stayed here twice first on the roof top suite and later on a regular room, the experience was unique and I hope it stays the same. Some other comments have noted on the lack of showercurtain , which would completely spoil the typical decor of the place, "please this is Morocco things are different" and thank God for that! Not being able to use a credit card when you have less than a few nights stay, I found perfectly reasonable since the commissions are too much. It is impossible to have better service for such a good price! You feel at home but even better, as if you were the most special person to ever visit the Riad. Truly you get the service of a five star hotel, but with the personal touch of staying in a smaller scale, more intimate place.

We stayed for 4 nights in June and had a fantastic time. The Riad is beautiful, maintained to a high standard and the staff couldn't have been more pleasent or accomodating. Don't be put off by the walk to the Riad (we were a bit worried about where we were headed) - once you get through the doors you will be amazed by the transformation. Great location for enjoying (?) the experience of the Souks and walking to the Square. I would definitely recommend this Riad to others. SW & MB
