I had a last minute short stay in Marrakech. I was spending 4 weeks in Europe for a european vacation. A friend of my advised me that a trip to Marrakech would be a great contrast to my european experience. He told me to stay in Dar Silsila. THe plane fare from London was about $150 and $120 back to Paris. He was right...I had a great time and it was a very worthwhile experience....I would recommend the same to any one..I stayed 4 days, but I will be back next year to explore more.

Dar Silsila was everything my friend said...From being picked up at the airport , to being greeted by the owner-operator Jean Patrick, having hot mint tea. The hotel is like a guest house in traditional moroccan house with courtyard, except with all modern convieniences , delightfully decorated rooms, and very pleasant. The hotel is very close to main square and tourist attractions...5 mins walk. The bedroom was a delight...elegant and tasteful with an oriental flavor..Breakfast was simple and tasteful...traditional moroccan style, unless you opt out.

Jean Patric was very hepfu and spent 30 mins helping me construct an itinery. Most places want to sell you tours. He simply wanted to make sure you had a good time...never tried to sell me a tour and gave me lots of great advice.

The rooms were immaculately clean and the service was very good.

I thoroughly recommend a trip to Marrakech. Dar Silsila is a great place to stay for the first-timer.

My friend and I stayed for 3 nights at Dar Silsila. We stayed in a small room with 2 twin beds. The room was charming and met our needs. The first night we arrived we had a lovely meal of tangine prepared for us at the hotel. It could not have been more perfect. The tiny courtyard was set for us. We enjoyed a lovely meal with a bottle of Moroccan wine. The proprietor of the riad was away on vacation, so we were taken care of by Mohhamed. And when I say taken care of--that's what I mean. He was there for all of our comings and goings. He advised us on all matters and was waiting at the end of the day to hear how it all went. He was truly lovely. There were only 3 groups staying at the hotel, so Mohhamed arranged for us all to have dinner together. We enjoyed meeting the other guests and appreciated his effort to make us all feel comfortable with each other. It really made us feel like we were in a home rather than a hotel.

This is the BEST service I've ever experienced! Ritz Carlton, move over! WOW! And I only paid how much?

What impresses me is how the staff anticipates your needs (Mohammed you are the best!) - the level of service, professionalism, and friendliness have truly exceeded my expectations. I can understand why they won the Traveler's Choice Award from TA - well deserved!

I think my photos of the place speak for themselves, so I will focus my review on the service:

- We arrived unexpectedly early at the airport, and called the hotel for pick-up...and within 15 minutes they sent some down to pick us up. Mohammed apologized that the room wasn't ready (as they weren't expecting us for hours) but we were fine munching on their cookies & mint tea and lounging in one of their beautiful sitting rooms.
- We had problems connecting with our personal laptop to the internet, so they loaned us a laptop! We didn't even ask and he brought one out.
- We asked for a cup of hot water, and they delivered a silver canteen with two cups and a plate of cookies with a flower. Nice!
- It was raining, and they took one look at our Safari hats and insisted we take an umbrella.
- We needed to leave the riad at 4AM for the airport and the day before, Mohammed asked us what we wanted for breakfast. He said they typically serve coffee and cookies to early departure guests. I asked if I could have a pastry too and he said that he wasn't sure they would be able to bake so early in the morning, but would see. At 3:45AM, a soft knock was on the door and there was juice, pot of coffee, and warm croissants!

Everything was perfect! I can't find any fault with the riad or the staff. And this is rare for me. Believe me, I am very picky. They exceeded all expectations.

Stayed in the Africa room - and loved it! This room is located in their second building (the second building is the building after the main lobby). My room was on the second floor (by American definition - in Morocco they call it the first floor)

The rooms are all beautiful and I highly recommend this riad for the high service standards of the staff. Mohammed and the staff at Dar Silsila truly made my visit to Marrakech wonderful! It was so nice to return to this riad after a hot & hectic day. I'd love to return to Marrakech just to enjoy myself at Dar Silsila.

This riad is truly an oasis within the bustling walls of the Marrakech medina. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted and offered mint tea and yummy biscuits.

Conveniently located, with attentive staff, the atmosphere of the riad immediately made me feel relaxed, and was a real sanctuary after the hard haggling we did in the souks!

But for me, the true jewel in this riad's crown was Mohamed. His recommendations and insider knowledge were invaluable during our trip, and the riad would not be the same without him.

Mohamed and his trusty sidekick Fouad were always there to cater for our needs and made our stay a truly personal experience. Although Jean Patrick was also on hand to give advise, Mohamed was filled with those little pearls of wisdom only a true local would know, and was the true star of what really is an amazing place to stay.

My friend and I were in a Marrakech for a 4 night stay taking a break from husbands and children back home in the UK. We wanted to find a charming riad that would help us quickly begin to get a flavour of Marrakech. Dar Silsila more than delivered on that. We were welcomed by Mohammed (the owner Jean Patrick was on holiday that week) and settled down with some refreshing mint tea while he showed us where all the key sights were on a map and gave us practical advice on being in Marrakech. We had arrived early evening, so were keen to understand where we could eat that evening and found ourselves overlooking the frenetically busy and colourful square happily peoplewatching without ourselves being under a microscope! Breakfasts are simple and tasty. The accommodation is comfortable and the decor beautiful. This riad is actually 2 riads joined together, so there are 2 internal courtyards, one with a lovely water wall. Whatever your needs Mohammed is more than happy and very able to advise. Whether it be unlicensed vs licensed restaurants ( the riad serves wine and beer, and, with notice, is also able to provide evening meals if you wish), where best to shop or how best to get around or out of the city. We decided on a hammam for our last day which we were able to have in privacy at the top of the riad. The lady who does it is wonderful - one of the best massages I have ever had. Mohammed and the team really helped make this a truly enjoyable experience.
