Staying at Riad Sable Chaud is a real treat. The taxi driver, arranged by the Riad, collected us and gave as a typical Moroccan ride to the alleyway near the Riad from where we followed him down the twisting old alleyways of the Medina to the Riad. The Riad is a residential area so you get a real feel of local life right from the start. Abdul welcomed us at the Riad with delicious mint tea and Moroccan biscuits and filled us in on Marrakech. A perfect welcome. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble, we were made to feel completely at ease. Abdul showed us the way to Jemaa el Fna, we were given a map of the route back to the Riad and a mobile phone number, and so if we got lost Abdul would come and find us and guide us back. Surprisingly, for us, we did manage to find our way without getting lost!
Later we meet another member of staff, Younas who is a combination of concierge, personal shopper and tour guide. He took us for a day out in the Atlas Mountains; arranged a guide to take us up to some waterfalls, stopped at a Berber market and knew all the scenic places to stop. Younas also took our shopping list and bought what we asked for at reasonable prices.
Breakfast on the roof terrace was wonderful, a combination of Morrocan and French and much more that we could eat. As it was quite hot while we were there we came back mid afternoon to lounge on the roof terrace or in the courtyard – a couple of times I sat in the plunge pool reading while I cooled off. We left our 15 year old at the Riad a couple of times in the evening – he ended up watching DVD’s with Françoise as we did on one evening. All in all it was a very relaxing holiday even with the hustle and bustle of Marrakech was only 5 minutes from the Riad.
