Kathmandu can be a bit crazy in terms of the number of people crowding the narrow streets, the dust, and the traffic jams. But the Hyatt was a welcome change to all of these. The hotel has an impressive lobby. The rooms are spacious and i was given a room with the view of the stupa. Although amenities in the room are quite basic (smallish TV, etc.), the Hyatt is still a good hotel considering the reasonable price. Breakfast is adequate and I will recommend to dine at The Rox .

Staff were very helpful and friendly. I'll definately stay in this hotel the next time I'm in Kathmandu.

I realize that most people give this hotel two thumbs up, but we've had a very different experience. I am organizing many large scale events around the world each year, and this time we chose the Hyatt for a 60+ participants event - for 5 days. Overall result: the hotel is far from 5 stars, in all categories.
The food is average, the breakfast is simply bad, no menue changes over the days, very little variety.
The phone system is not working properly, you can't leave messages, and the wake-up feature is broken. When you ask for wake-up calls, they simply forget to call you - several times.
Business service is 2 star at best, with many friendly staff trying to help, but none of them seem to have a clue what they are doing. Not good when you run a conference.
The rooms are just about 3 star. No amenities in the bathroom, no internet (and if you ask, they charge $18 for a one day connection, the highest I have ever seen anywhere. That's 5 times the national daily avearge income!) light bulbs are missing and it takes two days to replace.
No telephones on the floor, in case you need to call if/when your key card doesn't work again.
TV works, but no listing of the channels - you have to remember them yourself.
And many other little things, that are just annoying when the accumulative effect kicks in.
While some of these characteristics may be less important for the average trecker tourist, the Hyatt is no location when you expect international 5 star service and equipment/features. ( and pay for it!) You can get the same service in Thamel for half the price, you are right downtown, and you get true Nepalese atmosphere. Some of the guest houses are just wonderful. But with the Hyatt, most of us 60 colleagues were less than impressed, and will not choose it again - for business or pleasure.

“One of the best Hotels in Kathmandu”

Hyatt Regency Kathmandu

This hotel has character. That's immediately apparent once you step into the entrance courtyard. Beautiful and spectacular. (For a hotel with an even more authentic Nepalese feel, try the Hotel Dwakira. A more spectacular looking pool, I have not seen.)

The Hyatt's rooms were very nice. No carpeting but hardwood flooring instead. Bathrooms are spectacular with a separate shower and tub. (Word of warning, however, I found the shower door to be prone to swinging shut when you least expect it, thereby possibly injuring a finger or two. And my shower wasn't fully waterproofed, with water leaking into the bathroom floor when the shower was running.) My room had a nice view of the stupa as well.

The breakfast buffet was just average.

I, however, am a sucker for character and great architecture, so I'm ready to forgive those quibbles and still rate this property as "above average".

Loved this place but will have to say it was not like most Hyatt's. A little shop worn, but hey better than anything else we had seen. Food was good but a little pricey as was the internet service. $7.50 for 15 minutes, most I have ever paid and did think that it was a ripoff. I liked the fact that they had a shuttle that ran every half hour to 5 different places. We made use of that. We walked to the closest Stupa and found a grocery store along the way that had an ATM, sure are hard to find in some of these cities. They did store our bags early in the am as we wanted to do another hour of shopping.

Room was spacious and nice however they put us way far away from the rest of the group. Breakfast buffet, seemed to be really lacking.

“Absolutely the best in kathmandu”

Had been to kathmandu several times in the last 10 years but had the opportunity to stay at the hyatt for the first time and wihtout a doubt will be staying here on any subsequent visit to kathmandu.
I feel compelled to write about hyatt kathmandu as i have never enjoyed my stay so much as i did in this beautiful property amidst the dirt and pollution of kathmandu city.

It was impeccable service by the staff i was there with my wife and 18 mth old kid who absolutely loved there pool and stayed in it for almost 2 hrs a day. The only jarring part of my stay was the behaviour of the manager at there fine dining restaurant ROX,no surprises that it almost runs empty most days thanks to the behaviour of their manager.

The place has a beautiful lobby, clean rooms they are large and aesthetically planned, nice cafe where breakfast was served very attentive staff although i seemed to get the feeling that they were expecting a tip whenever i even glnaced at them.

Well kept manicured gardens made it a joy to walk during the evenings and especilaly after it had rained, great view of hte boudnath stupa was visible from my room and took some great pictures.
All in all the best place to stay in kathmandu and most definitely will be viositing it agian next year.
