We booked this hotel as we had gotten rave recommendations on its sister chains, CityInn. They have like a dozen CityInns in Taipei and all were snapped up when we were reserving (just kidding...actually, there are 4 of 'em :). Admittedly, we booked it only a week before coming to Taiwan so looking at the availability, we lunged at Hotel 73 and even the rooms were being grabbed like how Kobayashi does hot dogs.
Ok, back to Hotel 73. We actually stayed in 2 rooms due to lack of availability of one type of room for our entire duration. We took Elite and Deluxe. Room amenities were ample. Mini-fridge, bathtub, toiletries, kettle, free Wi-Fi, luggage storage. Ah, and there's breakfast too. To top it off, they actually have a washing machine and dryer...now that was really good stuff.
Elite wasn't too bad though ours had a musty smell on the carpeted floor when we entered. For some reason the floor was wet though the staff placed a dehumidifier there to dry the patch. The size of the room was ok for us but caucasians may find it a tight fit, again this really depends on comfort level.
Deluxe was great. The idea of a japanese style tub is great and we kinda regretted not getting a Deluxe room in the very first place. The main room is the same as an Elite but the bathroom is much bigger.
The biggest issue with both rooms was the waterproofing or the lack of it. Both the normal bathtub and japanese tub had water seeping into the rest of the bathroom.
Service was not too bad. They appear to have at least one at the counter who can speak English albeit halting but overall, t'was pretty alright.
Location was the biggest problem. In previous stays, the MRT, Metro, subway would be practically at our doorstep. Not the case for Hotel 73 where a good 10-15 minute walk is needed to get to CKS Memorial Station. We took either cab or bus to Taipei Main Station everyday. I believe they are currently constructing an MRT next to the hotel and in future, location should not be a problem :)
