I came here with my husband, feeling a little guilty that we'd succumed to non-Thai food in Bangkok. I think after 3 weeks in Thailand, we just needed something different, and I am so glad we came here. I found the wine list had a very reasonable starting price (which had been of concern to me as I feared imported wine in a top class restaurant could be very pricey.) We both went for the four course set menu. I had the Trio of Hokkaido Scallop, Tiger Prawn and Boston Lobster which were delicious. Afterwards I had the Wagyu beef, which I asked to have with the truffle mashed potato instead of the quinoa. This was not a problem at all, and the mash turned out to be one of the highlights of my meal. Sometimes the simplest things can also be the most extraordinary. I had always wanted to try Wagyu, so that too was a thrill. The texture is quite different to steak. It melts in the mouth. The chef came and talked to us during our meal, and once he realised how much I loved truffles he requested two complimentary balls of truffle ice cream for my husband and I (and even gave us some to take back to our hotel for one of our truffle-mad children.) I liked his down to earth attitude. Sometimes, upmarket restaurants with dress codes, and plush furnishings can feel a little intimidating. Napa 26 does not. I only wish he'd come and open a restaurant in Brussels!
