we were looking for a quiet, great hotel in bangkok in april 2012. we had been in downtown bangkok a couple of times in the recent decades - else only connecting at the airport - and from then knew that bangkok is a very bustling city, with traffic being horrific.
thus other luxury hotels along busy streets, or across the river, were no option for us, even when they are ****** ;-) .
having enjoyed the HANSAR and their concept already on koh samui various times, we booked 3 nights in the HANSAR in bangkok, knowing about the great concept we can trust, and its location – in a quiet side street, just around the corner to all of the action – a hotel, that is QUIET, AND a minute away from a skytrain station – in our opinion an ABSOLUTE must, when considering booking a hotel in bangkok not only when there for sight-seeing.
when on a private tour in rural NW Thailand in 2011 we were walking along luscious rice fields when the farmer invited us to see his house. traditional houses in rural thailand are built on poles, thus entering the house is not straight in, but up a staircase – then you enter the very private part of the house, that is not open to everybody.
entering the HANSAR in bangkok – walking up the stairs – lets you have that same feeling, you are not entering one of those huge lobbies, with extended front-desks, just being one of many of guests in there at that time, but you enter a unique setting, a very ‘private’ setting within which you are nicely welcomed by great staff and checked in [and YES, there are lifts to get you up there, if you don’t want to walk the stairs ;-) ].
we arrived in the morning, and our room was ready at hand, an edge suite we were given, as the type we had booked, the hotel was pretty full, wasn’t ready yet – which, with that great option offered, didn’t really make us feel unhappy at all ;-).
details about rooms/amenities/spa have been given in many a comments, and HANSAR’s homepage has lots of impressive fotos up there, so we just want to say, yes, that is a great setting and concept.
what we like most about the ‘HANSAR’ concept, besides great quality, is the personal touch; the staff make you feel like at home, like visiting a friend, though you might be there the first time. everybody tries to give their best, even if their english were not fluent in an academic way - but for sure is well above average of asian ***** hotels - but you get what you want all of the time, and that ready at hand – my thai is much worse ;-)
we got great sight-seeing tips, that helped us a lot enjoying bangkok on the first day on our own. for the other two days we had booked a private tour guide, great service we got.
we had various meals in the HANSAR, in the BOCA. We liked the menu in the BOCA, had some delicious thai food, a helpful staff, and had some epicurean experiences – the BOCA you should try; after a great meal enjoying a nice evening out on the patio of the bar of the HANSAR, the VUE, allows a cozy end of a probably very exhausting sightseeing day, in a very quiet setting, and in fresh air.
being tourists we wanted:
a great hotel, that is centrally located, that is within shortest walking distance to a skytrain station, AND a quiet one, in a side street.
And we got it, being added a very personal touch, a great staff, and a luxury hotel – the HANSAR.
