A friend was visiting from China and he recommended Gai and Joel. To be honest, I had never heard of it, but was happy to give it a go. And I am very glad I did! The restaurant, located in the reasonably upmarket Soi Langsuan is smarlty decorated and has a great atmosphere. One of the first things I noticed was a large TV that was allowing for a "live" kitchen performance. As the kitchedn is located on the second florr, I thought this was an intersting take on the open kitchen.
After selecting our wine, a nice Australian Sauvignon blanc, we were presented with an amuse bouche of a mushroom and truffle tortelini - it was delicious! This was followed by an interesting assortment of bread with two toppings.
The menu is quite large and there are lots of interesting options making choice a bit difficult. I settled on a spicy salad of cucumber spaghetti and tiger prawns. This is a spicy little treat with a distinctly Thai flavour profile. The flavours were clean and simple. I thought I made a great choice!
As they had a "buy one get one free" deal on Canadian lobsters, we all went with this option. Wow! What a great choice. The lobster we opted for was poached in chardonnay and served with a truffle sauce. At first I thought the truffle might overpower the sweetness of the lobster but it didn't, it enhanced it! I am still salivating and will be for some time: taste memory can be a blessing and a curse!
Service was excellent: friendly and professional.
So glad I was introduced to Gai and Joel Global Flavors, and can highly recommend it! Will be back for more!
