We booked through spg points and US$, which worked out great, but we probably could have gotten one of their specials on the spg site that includes breakfast at a reasonable rate. We couldn't pass up the amazing buffet breakfast as our baby had us up at 5:30 each morning anyway!!
We didn't note we had a baby with us on our booking but requested a limo with a car seat for collection at the airport. This obviously updated our booking as we got there and they had set up a very comfy travel cot with lovely bed linen, a complimentary cuddly toy, baby products in the bathroom and a bath toy!! There were also 6 bottles of complimentary water in the room which was great for sterilising bottles and making up feeds, it does say tap water is drinkable though. When this was gone you just request more.
Location as others have said is great but I wasn't impressed with the immediate area, no local restaurants etc so we just got the sky train everywhere. We have done Bangkok before so weren't doing the cultural stuff this time, just a bit of Christmas shopping and a break in the long trip from Oz. We stayed in Meridien Plaza Athenee before which is on embassy row and just as close to shops etc but a little less crowded and dusty locally.
Do not pass up the brekkie, I think we had five courses each morning at about 6am that kept us going until 4ish!! Cereal, fruit salad, hot dishes, made to order omelettes, breads and pastries, french toast and maple syrup, the list goes on!! Our 7 month old son was getting so much attention from everyone, they were all so friendly !
At check in we mentioned our flight was leaving at past midnight and what were the chances of a late check out. He said he would have to charge for a late one but we could have the room until 4pm for free (may be an spg thing)!!! Brilliant, it meant our son had a good afternoon sleep and we were able to relax by the pool that morning and use the facilities to shower later in the evening before our limo to the airport.
Pool is fab, very relaxing setting and lots of lovely loungers in shade or sun, also underwater music, which is a novelty! The little man loved the mini water fountains beside the pool.
We didn't get anything from the mini bar so not sure of the prices, and someone previously complianed about internet charge but every hotel I have been to charges similar rates. It would have been handy to have a computer in the lobby to use for free but I didn't see one. We did get room service one night of a salad and sandwich, it was all very efficient and tasty but such a massive portion, the price seemed very reasonable, obviously nothing like local prices.
I really can't fault this place, bathroom was super bedroom was perfect (little smaller than Meridien but I think we got upgraded to a suite when there) with a huge tv and dvd player, you could turn the tv so you can watch in while having a bath. The best thing though was the service and the super friendly smiley Thai staff.
