Majestic is a very apt word for this hotel.

It really is faultless from the room to the service to the facilites.

Make sure you try the in house Thai food and cocktails from the bar.

We booked through www.hotelasia.com and it worked out at 40GBP per night!!! This included a fantastic buffet breakfast!

Stay there and enjoy it!

I can only echo many of the other very good reviews of this hotel. The fact that a room costs easily under £100 per night was just another bonus. Great location, but if you're particularly prudish probably not ideal due to its proximity to Nana, etc. However, cheap taxis are readily available if you want a change from the immediate area or to go shopping or on trips, etc.
Staff very helpful, cleanliness excellent, good rooms and excellent service. Nice bar for meeting up (happy hour 6-8 I think) and a good restaurant which does a buffet/bbq where you can select your own steaks and seafood to be bbq-ed.
Lots of good restaurants in the area & plenty of bars (though many are 'girlie bars').
Pretty well equipped fitness room & nice pool to relax in at the end of a hot day. Will definitely stay again when in BKK.

“Lovely hotel despite the area”

Majestic Grande Hotel

A lovely hotel, despite the main entrance being in Soi Nana. Plush carpeting throughout and good sized, very clean, rooms. The 7th floor restaurant gave you the option of dining by the pool and the evening "Surf & Turf" was most enjoyable. The ground floor Italian restaurant does a huge pizza (recommend the chicken tikka) for a reasonable price if you don't fancy eating out. The buffet breakfast is large and varied with something for everyone. Walk straight through the barriered road opposite to get to the nearest Seven Eleven. Turn left out of the main door and left again at the end of Soi Nana to get to the nearest Sky Rail Station

The hotel is a short walk from Nana station on the skytrain. The Hotel is also only a block away from the major sex action at Nana and Soi 4. But that is Bangkok and if it offends you Bangkok is not for you. There are good restuarants in the area. and reasonble shopping along Sukhumvit. The hotel was clean, well maintained with a friendly staff. It was not cheap however. The internet was not included in price and there was a problem with the wireless in the room. They gave me an hour free which I couldn't use. The breakfast was included and was an extensive and good buffet. Small but good swimming area. The gym was adequate. The lunch was also a very nice buffet, but it was not cheap. The concierge team was very helpful and full of ideas where I could spend lots of money; but also on how to get to Wat Whats and what I could wear.

I was dissapointed in Bangkok in general; the older markets have very little local crafts...much of the wood carving has been replaced by resin casts and the wood carvings are very expensive. I find bargaining an exhausting process especially when they start 3-5x higher than the item is worth. You shouldn't pay more that 4-6 US for a knock off Polo shirt but they start at $20.
Bangkok is not a city to walk around and the car traffic is horrendous. Remember to always use a metered airconditioned taxi and pick a location not a store and tell him you are meeting someone. Then they will take you directly there instead of trying to waylay you to a store that gives them commission. Also tut-tuts generally will rip you off because you have to negotiate a flat rate. I had one ask for 200 baht from Siam to Chao San...I told him 35 baht which he refused and came back with 50 baht if he could stop along the way, meaning take me to some shop. Later I took a airconditioned metered taxi for 50 baht.

“Excellent Value!!”

Majestic Grande Hotel

Stayed 4 nights at the Majestic Grande February 2008 and can happily echo many of the positive reviews on this hotel. In close proximity to public transportation (Skytrain), shopping and numerous eateries—the Majestic Grande is the perfect home base for active tourists that want to be close to the sights. We especially liked it here because the room rates were very reasonable for such a nice establishment.

Though a tad on the small side, the rooms are very modern, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. We didn’t spend a lot of time at the hotel (too busy enjoying Bangkok!); so, aside from the breakfast, we didn’t really partake of the other hotel amenities. The breakfast was average, but there was lots of variety.

Just some things of note…
The sidewalks surrounding the hotel are narrow and uneven. Not a huge problem, but probably a bit difficult to navigate for those with strollers or mobility issues.

Safety: Yes, there is a red-light district somewhere near the hotel but it is easily avoidable. We were doing lots of walking and we never even encountered it. Also, the street that the hotel is located on is dimly lit. However, we (2 females in our early 30’s) felt perfectly safe walking to/from the hotel in the late night hours. The JW Marriott is located just down the street so there is plenty of foot and car traffic at all times.

The concierge will flag down a meter taxi for you. Make sure you confirm the fare BEFORE departing from the hotel. On our final day, the cab driver told us that in addition to the meter price, there was an airport surcharge for taking us TO the airport. Untrue! Always be careful. The hotel employees are extremely helpful and, if asked, they will assist you in communicating with shady cab drivers.

When walking to the Skytrain station, you may cut through the air-conditioned mall on your left. It’s a short distance but the a/c is a welcome reprieve from the heat!

Last but not least, there are tons of fantastic places to eat nearby. Here are some of my favorites:
Foodloft at Central Chidlom – the best high-end food court I’ve ever been to.
Thai Restaurant at Face – for a fancy dining experience.
Crepes & Co – wonderful variety of food in a casual setting. Great dessert crepes!
