We stayed for three nights after finding the hotel on TripAdvisor and it exceeded all expectations. Like a lot of reviewers, we upgraded to an executive suite which meant we were in a beautifully appointed room on the 27th floor, overlooking the river and city.
The room wasn’t huge but well designed, so that the bed looked straight towards a big picture window and out over the view. Like a lot of places we stayed at in S.E Asia, there was no top sheet on the bed, which we thought was a bit weird but then we encountered it at most places we visited so perhaps it’s the norm.
The bathroom was great, with a giant shower head, dressing gowns and nice toiletries.
The upgrade gave us access to the 31st floor breakfast room and lounge with even more amazing views across Bangkok. Through the day, the hotel puts on morning tea, afternoon tea and evening drinks (with good quality spirits and liqueurs) all included in the upgrade price, which we thought was well worth it. There was also free wireless internet access on this level. Even the men’s toilet is great, with spectacular views and trendy fittings.
Everything about the place is classy – the enormous atrium, the friendly and professional staff, the fitness centre and well-equipped gym overlooking the river (if you like to do exercise on holiday it’s great, with each treadmill having its own TV)… and especially the 4th floor pool area: outdoor reading beds, a sandpit for kids, lounges actually IN the water and a great riverside vista. Our only qualm was the constant elevator music playing in the pool area (another SE Asian specialty from what we’ve seen!). We’d have rather just listened to the sounds of the river life below, but it was no big deal.
The only other slight criticism was the airport transfer – we arranged it prior to arrival and it cost us almost $80 in Australian dollars…about four times the price of a taxi so a bit of a rip-off. Then again it was in a Mercedes!
We read before we left about some people’s dislike for the hotel’s location but we loved it – it’s not stuck right in the middle of all the craziness of the CBD and the free boat takes you across in five minutes to the main ferry stop, where it’s also only about a 100m walk to the SkyTrain. Plus on one of the far-side stops there’s an air-conditioned Hilton lounge where you can sit and have a drink while you wait for the ferry back to the hotel.
Another highlight for us was the 360 bar up the top of the hotel. Really expensive, as expected, but top night views and good drinks!
All-up this is an amazing place which we would definitely recommend.
